A good general rule is to keep legs no further than shoulder width apart. This early healing phase is when the repair is most delicate, and minimizing tension helps ensure proper healing and comfort.After the initial healing period, as swelling and tenderness subside, most patients can gradually resume normal sitting positions, including sitting cross-legged, as long as it feels comfortable and does not cause pulling or pain.Every patient heals a bit differently, so the best guide is your own comfort level and your surgeon’s specific post-operative instructions. After permanent hymenoplasty, full recovery is achieved in 6 weeks at the latest. The first week is the most important time for the stitches not to open. However, crossing your legs does not hurt. Hymenoplasty is not affected by normal physical activity. Extreme physical activity is another story. Things to avoid are soaking in water for the first 6-8 weeks. That includes tub baths, sitz baths, jacuzzi, and swimming. Keep pressure off the area. That means no riding of bicycles, motorcycles, mopeds, horses, etc. Sit cross-legged if you want. One last thing, don't spread your vagina open to take a look at the stitches. That's the easiest way to tear stitches and it's pointless. If you want to have your stitches checked, see your surgeon.
