A liposuction would unmask the platysma muscles and make the fibers more visible, but not actually create muscle bands or make a platysmaplasty more prone to come undone. Unfortunately, the suturing together of the 2 platysma muscle borders occasionally fails, with the muscles separating, It is thought to be caused by natural muscular tension and movement. That is why some surgeons remove a wedge of muscle below the level of suture plication, to release tension and hopefully avoid recurrence. Also, if the 2 bands were far apart to begin with, there would be more tension on the platysmaplasty stitching, thus increasing the odds of separation. Fortunately, it is relatively easy to resuture the muscles under local anesthesia through the original incision below the chin.

Your muscle can be tightened again and perhaps mesh may be needed or permanent sutures for a better hold. Please discuss this with your surgeon. However, if you only had a chin tuck and not the facelift, you actually may need the rest if the facelift for a better hold.
