We have not seen anyone have dissolution of surgically placed autologous septal cartilage grafts. In general, the cons are graft visibility, misplacement, or failure to achieve the desired result. Hope this helps! Dr Joseph
Like many composite grafts they tend to shrink away. I wouldn’t recommend them unless they are there to address a very specific problem. Often their use is not helpful but surgeons like doing them because they are new and plastic surgeons like trying new things. It’s only later that they discover they don’t work
Good Afternoon! Alar grafts are typically thin pieces of cartilage which can help push the margin of the nostril downward and create better flow. Sometimes, they are small pieces which don't provide much support. Other times, they can be larger and sutured into place in the form of articulated grafts to the tip. I would not say that they go away. The most important thing is to evaluate the reason for alar graft placement. For very high, arched nostrils, they often don't provide enough support and composite grafts from the ear are better. Or, lateral crural struts with repositioning of the lower lateral cartilages as another option. Hope this helps!
Performing these two procedures together is an excellent way to accomplish two goals at one surgery! By bringing in less lip upward into the liplift excision, you can accomplish both goals!
You may be looking at a scar from an open rhinoplasty which makes an incision between the nostrils. However you can also use that incision to shorten the columella but cutting out a small segment of skin
You could either go very conservative or have a full rhinoplasty. There are several things that could be addressed with your nose. The tip could be raised and refined and the nostrils narrowed which is what it sounds like you want. I would recommend you go in several consults and don’t be s...
It is almost impossible to achieve nostril symmetry. Any attempts can lead to taking too much off one side and then going back to take some more from the other side. As this goes on permanent scarring with poor healing can lead to worst asymmetry than before the surgery was done. Also, it is...
Are you a candidate for Alar plasty? An alar plasty narrows the nostril base thereby narrowing the entire nostril. You might want to discuss with your surgeon performing a nasal tip plasty along with this, since it appears that you also have a somewhat bulbous nasal tip.
Good Afternoon! Alar base reduction can be very effective for narrowing the width of the nostrils. 5 mm of overall reduction (2.5 mm per side) is appropriate based on your pictures. If that was mentioned per side, I would be very cautious. The problem with narrowing the nostrils too much is it...
