Is it normal to have very uneven lips after getting Juvederm? (Photo)

Question

I had juverderm injected into my lips. The day it was done my lips look full and even. 2 days after my lips are super uneven and kinda lumpy. One side is VERY swollen. What can I do to make the swelling go down??? Is t normal for the day of injections for the lips to look great and a few days after look ugly and gross??? It's been 2 weeks and my lips are still uneven and lumpy. Is this normal???!!!! I thought with injections it would help the shape of my lips be more symmetrical but it's worse!!!

Hi Sarah,

It takes about 2 weeks for the final appearance.  If you are unhappy with the appearance, you can always have a reversal agent injected.  I would follow up with your provider to determine the best course of action

Thank you for your question.  If filler is not massaged enough, sometimes can become lumpy and uneven.  The lips do tend to swell, therefore please wait two weeks before the swelling has subsided.  Tweaks can be made if they are asymmetrical and massage the lip to try and smooth the lumps.  Please return to you consultation if you have any problems so you can discuss.  All The Best

It takes 1-2 weeks for final results with lip injections. If you're unhappy with your final results, you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. Best, Dr. Emer

Hi, This can be a common reaction, swelling and bruising can last up to 2 weeks, continue to ice, and follow up with your doctor once the swelling reduces , so you can see the full results, if you are unhappy with the results, it can easily be fixed, with removing some filler or adding more where needed!

Thank you for your question. It is not uncommon to experience swelling after lip fillers, however this should resolve in the next 2 weeks. I always advise my patients to ice the treated area to help resolve swelling. You can also gently massage the swollen area to help smooth it out. Please consult your injector if this persists after two weeks. All the best!

Thank you for your question and for sharing your photos. I'm sorry to hear that you aren't happy with the results of your Juvederm treatment. The lips are a sensitive area, and are particularly prone to swelling and bruising after filler injections. That said, swelling and bruising typically resolve within 2 weeks. It's also not uncommon to feel lumps or nodules of Juvederm after injection as well - these typically soften as the Juvederm absorbs water and blends in.
Since it has been 2 weeks since your treatment, I would recommend that you follow-up with your injector. He/she may be able to gently massage the filler to better blend it in. You may also need hyaluronidase injections to dissolve the excess filler if the asymmetry does not resolve with massage alone.

Thanks for sharing your pictures and for your question. It is not uncommon after swelling improves for there to be slight irregularities in lip filler. Your lip shape does look asymmetric and I recommend you go back to your injector for reassessment. They can try redistributing the filler with massage. Other options include injecting a small amount of hyaluronidase to dissolve the filler to help even out your lip shape.  I hope this is helpful!

For most people the swelling and unevenness, that is common right after injection, will be resolved at 2 weeks.  Having the lips go from looking good to swollen and lumpy/uneven is a common issue. If you are unhappy with your lips at 2 weeks post injection I would see you treating physician for a follow up visit to discuss your options.
