Scar tissue making chin uneven. How do I make my chin look even after I had it stitched up? (Photo)

Question

I got in to an accident and split my chin open, had about 8 stitches to close it back up 3 years ago. It has caused my chin to look lopsided. When I run on it I can feel the scar tissue underneath. What is the best procedure to even this out? Chin implants? Laser to get rid of the scar tissue underneath? Any advice is hugely appreciated

Dear CaliforniatoCaliIf your scar tissue is distinct and palpable, it can likely be removed surgically. If you want the fast and easy fix, you can use fillers to enlarge the opposite side to improve symmetry. An in person exam with your plastic surgeon would be very informative for you.

Without an exam your question cannot be answered. However, your photos are helpful and you are probably a good candidate for a Chin Augmentation. You will need to see an Oral/Maxillofacial surgeon to see if othognathic surgery, genioplasty or using an implant is best for your specific case. It should be noted that patients with severely weak jaws or abnormally functioning jaws may be better treated with other facial surgery (orthognathic surgery), although a chin augmentation may be an option at a later time. These patients should seek the advice of a plastic surgeon to determine which course is right for them. Here is some information to help you make this decision:Candidates for Chin Augmentation -Patients whose chin profiles are weak but have normally functioning jaws are candidates for Chin Augmentation. Many of these candidates have used injectable fillers in the past to strengthen the protrusion of their chins, but are looking for a permanent solution. If you are one of these patients, then you are a likely candidate for chin augmentation.

Thank you for your pictures.  A physical exam will go a long way here.  If the injury to your chin resulted in increased bone formation then chin reduction/contouring would be appropriate.  If the injury resulted in increased scar (soft tissue) then internal scar reduction would be appropriate.  A chin implant would not solve this issue.  Best wishes.
