I have a thick brow ridge like a neanderthal and wanted to know the difference between brow reduction and facial feminization? Do you have to call it facial feminization if you want a normal flatter forehead without a protrusion above your eyes that only Sasquatch would envy?
Answer: Brow bone reduction in men without feminization. Brow bone reduction in men without feminization. Yes I have done this for 43 years using the Irregular Trichophytic Forehead Incision I co-developed. The difference in males is other parts of that surgery to feminize are not done. Return to work in a week. No visible scar! If you have baldness in the future you will have to have to deal with that.

Answer: Brow bone reduction for men Most of my facial feminization patients are women or male to female transgender patients, but I do every one of these procedures for men from time to time. Brow bone or forehead reduction is the most common "facial feminization" procedure I do for men, followed by jaw bone reduction. Men who want to reduce their brow ridge will typically say the same things you are saying - their strong brow ridge makes them look like a caveman and people think they are dumb or aggressive. Most men have some brow ridge, so you want a very experienced surgeon who is able to reduce your bone, not completely smooth it out. The other important consideration in brow surgery for men is hair loss. For women or trans women on hormone therapy it is rare to have to significant hairline recession. Most men will have at least a little hair loss with time. You can't make the incision for a man in same place as you would for a woman or you risk having it be very visible in ten or twenty years. Most experienced FFS surgeons will do virtual consults as their patients will come from all over the world for their unique skill set. Contact one of us to set one up. -Dr. Rolfes

Answer: Brow Ridge Reduction Hello,There is no reason to feel funny about having your brow ridge reduced. You are correct that it is often part of feminization surgery because women generally do not have a ridge and men typically do. However, going from a very pronounced ridge to a more middle-of-the-road male brow ridge is not going to feminize you. Because the most common person to seek this operation is trying to feminize their face, you will probably find yourself in a surgeon's office who sees mostly that clientele. Don't fret, just because the surgeon mostly treats feminization patients, that does not mean the surgeon can't reduce your excessive brow ridge into a more typical male one. Brow reduction is a specialty, not every plastic surgeon does it. And those who do, will have to mostly do male to female surgery to have sufficient cases to make a living and keep their skills. What you need to do is interview 2 or 3 and see how that goes.Dr. A

Answer: Brow Reduction in Male without Facial Feminization A female with a brow bone that would be appropriate for a normal male may need reduction to feminize their appearance. A male with extreme brow bone prominence can have this reduced so it is consistent with a strong handsome male contour. An analogous situation occurs when a patient consults for rhinoplasty surgery. I'm going to reduce the nose more for a lady than a gentleman so the nose is proportional to their surrounding facial features.
