2 weeks post op, when can I ride my horses again?!

Congratulations on your recent breast augmentation.You sound like a very energetic, outgoing, adventurous person. People like you struggle with sitting and chilling for more than 2 weeks. :)  Really, my recommendation would be to take it easy for a month. I tell patients that they cannot do bench press or aggressive exercise for a month, even though they feel up to it. If the horse bucks or requires you to do some aggressive movements, you may disrupt the surgical repair.Nonetheless, I defer to your surgeon's recommendation.- Dr. Bryson G. Richards, MD

I generally advise my patients to avoid all exercise for 3 weeks, and then to avoid any upper body muscle work for an additional 3 weeks.  If you can ride without straining on the reins, then I think 3 weeks is sufficient.  If, however, you expect there to be sudden pulling etc, I would advise to wait until 6 weeks.  Its best, however, to ask your surgeon as every one of us has slightly different protocols.

Typically I tell patients no excercise of 6 weeks. therefor nothing that will potentially move or injure the breast implants until they have settled. Every plastic surgeon has his or her own way of doing things post op. Your best bet is to speak with your plastic surgeon regarding this. 

Thanks for the question.   The two big risks with strenuous activity  are bleeding and implant malposition. It would be best to discuss your activity with your surgeon as they know best how you are healing. Good luck!

With a good support bra you should be able to resume some riding. However I would consult your surgeon on what his or her desire is for you.  At two weeks you are not at all healed so you need to be mindful of what type of high impact exercise you are doing. Best wishes to you.

Thank you for your question.  Typically with breast augmentation, you can expect to resume light activities, such as walking, two weeks after surgery.  For more rigorous activities, such as riding horses or running, it is best to wait 4 to 6 weeks from your surgery date.  It is always best to check with your plastic surgeon to get his or her recommendations regarding your procedure. 

I am glad you are doing so well. Riding horses is higher impact and you have to consider the possibility of falling off the horse (even if that has never happened to you!).  If you fall and split your incision, you have lost your implants. Below is a well healed result on a very fit and active woman.  Follow your surgeon's advice for the  best results. 

Every plastic surgeon has his or her own postoperative protocols when it comes to activities after surgery. Congratulations on your surgery!  Sounds like it was successful and you are doing well.My wife and daughters are avid riders, so I know first hand how hard it is to keep riders off their horses!  This is the time in the post op period where patients get into trouble.  They feel great, they look great and they "forget" and start back to their normal exercise/activity.  It is too soon!Consult with your plastic surgeon first and foremost.  I would recommend at least 4 weeks of no riding if you were my patient.  I would prefer 6 weeks, but with "horse people" that is asking for too much!Good luck with your recovery and future competitions.

You really should contact your board certified plastic surgeon for clarification and direction. Every surgeon has a specific list of pre and post operative instructions which should be followed. Congrats on your recent surgery. Best wishes!
