Upper lip swelling Volbella -- 5 hours post

Don’t worry; it’s normal that you are swollen after your Volbella treatments. Although Volbella does tend to swell a bit less than other HA fillers, any injection into the lip can result in a couple days to 2 weeks of swelling. After the swelling goes down, you will see the final result.  Consulting with a board-certified dermatologist who is an expert in lip augmentation will minimize bruising and swelling. Next time, you can ask that the HA filler be administered with cannulas.

Hello,  yes this is normal.  Although Volbella is known for less swelling, you still have trauma to the lip.  Ice is a key factor in post treatment along with low salt intake.  I would give the product 7-14 days to settle, dissolving the product is always an option but its best to give the product time to settle.  Follow up with the office that you had your treatment received.

Thank you for sharing your question and photographs and I am sorry that your current results have caused you concern.  Swelling after filler placement into the lips is quite common due to the thin nature of the tissues.  This swelling, and your results, will steadily improve over the next 10-14 days, and often less with Volbella.  In the meantime try reducing the swelling by using cold compresses to your lips and elevating your head at night with a couple of extra pillows behind your back.  You may want to also consider using Arnica Montana and bromelain as supplements.  Hang in there!

Swelling is typical after lip injections and can last 1-2 weeks after injections. Icing and cold compresses can give improvement. If you're unhappy with your final results, you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Volbella is a very nice product for softening lip lines. Regardless of the HA filler used, swelling is to be expected. While Volbella swells less than restylane silk, you may not realize your final results for up to 2 weeks.  Volbella is the newest FDA approved filler for lip lines.  It does a great job at softening lip lines without the bulky or puffy appearance.  So you made a great choice and I'm sure you will have beautiful results

The lips and surrounding tissue tend to be very reactive.  I always tell my patients to expect swelling (with whatever filler I use) for about three days after the injections.  While Volbella usually causes less swelling than some of the other fillers, some patients still do have significant swelling.  Gently applying ice to the area for about 5 minutes each hour that you are awake may help some.  If there is any bruising, you can apply arnica cream four times daily.  Just be patient and know that, in a few days, you will likely love your results!

Thank you for your question.  It's not uncommon to experience swelling for up to two weeks after any filler injections - furthermore, the lips are an especially sensitive area, and are particularly prone to swelling.  At times, this swelling can be asymmetric and can make your filler appear uneven.  It is impossible to assess your results until your swelling has fully subsided. 
For now, I would recommend gently applying ice or cool compresses to the area to help the swelling resolve sooner.  Please follow-up with your doctor in 2 weeks if you have any concerns.  If necessary, Volbella can be dissolved with hyaluronidase.  I hope this helps! 

Swelling in the lips following filler injections is very normal. You can expect the swelling to last 7-14 days on average. Using ice or cold compresses may be helpful.
