Is Minoxidil 5% safe to use before face and neck lift?

Question

My MD advised me to stop taking anything (Vit E, blood thinners, etc) that might thin my blood before my facelift surgery two weeks before and after. I can't find any info with regards to applying Minoxidil 5% on my scalp (which I have been using for almost a full year with great results). Any info would be appreciated...Thanks! Laurel

There should be no issue using Minoxidil. You want to stay away from anything that could contribute to increased bleeding.
Be sure to discuss with your surgeon.

Hi.  Minoxidil applications to your scalp will not thin your blood or be a problem with a facelift if the incisions do not cross into the scalp.  Glad you are seeing a good result from the Minoxidil! Best wishes,

Thank you for your question.   Still taking Minoxidil for your surgery should be fine, it's normally any herbal medication which can have some blood thinning components.  Please consult with your surgeon and follow their protocol.  All The Best

Pretty sure there is no real issue with taking Minoxidil for your surgery. Make sure you avoid excessive amounts of Vitamins E and C and withhold any NSAIDs at least 2 weeks before your surgery. Good luck!

Using topical minoxidil on your scalp should not thin your blood or affect the results of your face and neck lift.  It is always best to let your particular surgeon know what medications you are using though, as he or she will be responsible for your care.

I don't think this medication should cause a problem for your in the peri-operative period around a facelift/necklift.  However, you may wish to discuss this with your surgeon's office to see what their wishes are.

I have no problem using minoxidil prior to surgery.  Your surgeon is your best resource since he is responsible for your care.  Be sure to ask him.
