Is it okay to take Accutane right after hair transplants?

Accutane can cause hair loss and problems with wound healing.  If you need to take accutane for a medical condition and you have a hair transplant you have to weigh out the risks and benefits with your doctor.  Please consult with your doctor.

It is not recommended to take Accutane for at least 9 months post hair transplant as it can affect your healing. Your new hair grafts need to have grown out and thickened before Accutane is resumed. This process usually takes 8-10 months. Speak with your hair transplant doctor and inform him/her of your Accutane use.

Accutane would not be recommended for at least 8 months-10 months post transplant as it could impair healing. Be sure to speak to your hair transplant surgeon. In general, patients considering using accutane after their transplant should wait until the grafts have grown out and final density has been achieved before starting. That usually occurs between 8-10 months. Isotretinoin, the ingredient in accutane may impair would healing and rarely causes hair loss itself.

Accutane will kill the hair grafts. You must wait at least 8 months before going back on the Accutane. That also applies to people on the drug before a hair transplant as they need 8 months without the drug before having a hair transplant

One of the side effects of accutane is hair loss, therefore before using it you need to let your doctor know. Most doctors suggest you wait for at least six months.m
