Last month @3 months post op,I had some initial growth in the frontal hairline area, and some further back... Sparse, but it continues to grow. Some of my original hair (shock loss) also began to grow at the same time. But I haven't really experienced any new growth since. Been on fin 6 mos., Rogaine 2 weeks post op. Is this intermittent growth pattern normal? My understanding has been that it's a progressive growth pattern, seeing more new hairs once it begins.
Answer
Transplanted hair grafts usually go dormant and its hair(s) fall out. When they decide to wake up, the grafts start to make their hair shaft(s) from scratch at a rate of 1cm a month for years to come. This magical process can take 6 to 12 months.

Answer
After a hair transplant, you’ll need to wait for new hair regrowth. Optimal results will begin to appear within four months to one year. Hair which has been transplanted will become coarser, fuller and thicker. How fast hair growth happens may depend on the type of hair transplant that you had. However the thickness of the initial growth is thin and it improves over the subsequent year. I would expect 20% to 30% additional coverage after 6 months. You may not see too many new hair henceforth.
Answer
Yes, growth can be spotty and weird the first 18 months. So hair can grow fully and fast, or like you are seeing with the spotty pattern. We have also noted differenecs in FUT/FUE and ARTAS/Neograft growth pattersn.
Answer
It takes 3-4 months before you start seeing new hair growth. It will be around 6-9 months where you start to notice a considerable amount and it takes a full year to see the full result. This is typical with any hair transplant.
Answer
The grafts go into a telogen phase and disappear completely to their stem cell base. Then at about 4-5 months, the new hair starts growing as any anagen phase would be. This growth continues for up to 3 years until it goes back into the telogen cycle again.
Answer
Hair has its own intrinsic cycle of growth and after transplant it goes through this cycle before it starts to grow in. Therefore usually most people see growth starting three months and it will continue to grow up to 18 months post op.
Answer
Once a follicular unit has been transplanted, it goes through a few stages:1. The hair fiber stays in the new recipient site for about two weeks before the cells responsible for its growth get rid of the hair fiber and go into a resting phase. A small percentage of hairs might not shed and continue to growth.2. The resting cells connect with the blood supply of the recipient site.3. The resting phase known as telogen can last from four to six months.4. The follicular cells start to make a hair fiber, and this can be patchy. This process can take up to 18 months.
