Your specific situation should be handled by your own surgeon. In my practice walking is permitted immediately. Aerobic activity can begin at about two weeks if the recovery is uncomplicated.
Many of my very active patients would like to work out sooner than I would like them to, and one of them got on the treadmill at two weeks without any apparent harm, of course without telling me she was going to do that. Most patients would not be able to do that, but I like patients to be walking and moving around the house soon after surgery. Since my patients do not have drains, they are comfortable moving about somewhat sooner. When the tightness abates, which varies between patients, they can start taking longer walks, and most are back at sedentary jobs by ten to fourteen days. Full activity including running should wait until six weeks, with gradually increasing walking or gentle treadmill up to that time. Upper body work can come sooner than jogging or running. The healing process for a tummy tuck takes three to six months, as the swelling and firmness of the tissues decreases. Activity tends to increase swelling during this time.
Every PS hasdifferent post-op recommendations for their patients. While walking isencouraged immediately, I encourage my patients to wait at least 4 weeks tostart more vigorous aerobic activity, gradually working up to your full normal workoutroutine by six weeks post-op. Keep in mind that your body will be deconditioned after your surgery and downtime during recovery. Best regards.
I have all patients up and walking the day of surgery.after 2 weeks they can begin to get their heart rate up (hiking)after 4 weeks they can begin more normal exercise routines such as runningat 6 weeks they are free to start weights, pilates etchope this helpsdr schwartz
Thank you very much for this interesting enquire. To give post-operative advice, i have lerned to individualize each patient according the complexity of the surgery, with this method the patient gets better results. For example, between two patients who has made a full tummy tuck, maybe, one of them, needed a bigger muscle repair than the other, because her abdominal wall was weaker. Therefore, who underwent a greater muscle repair, require a longer period of recovery, and will take longer to allow exercise, to prevent any damage of the surgery performed. But, generally speaking, in the average Tummy Tuck + BBL patient, exercises tend to allow two months after PO, gradually: first, gentle walks without sweating, then, you can go to the gym to do aerobics, and, after four months you can do machines excercise and start with light weights, and, only six months after PO may charge "free weights".I recommend you a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, specialized in Body Contour, who knows individualize each patient to give you the better advice. Finally, i invite you to share your photos with us to give more and better information of interest to you.Respectfully,Dr. Emmanuel Mallol Cotes.-
While your specific postoperative situation should be handled by your operating surgeon, I restrict all exercising and heavy lifting (weight training, aerobic activity, yoga, pilates, swimming, etc...) for four weeks postop. Plastic surgeons nationwide have different postoperative protocol when it comes to physical activity, so my recommendation is to follow up with your operating surgeon who knows your situation best. Best of luck!
