During past dental procedures the use of Novocain injections cause my heart to race which is uncomfortable and scary. Are there other safer numbing drugs which can be used during a face lift?
Answer: Epinephrine allergy or sensitivity I recommend my patients visit with an allergist and have the same anesthetic with epinephrine we inject during the surgery injected in a small amount in the skin in their office. They have all necessary medications to treat an allergic reaction if it occurs and would also answer if you have a true allergy to epinephrine. As I tell other patients, your body makes epinephrine so it would be difficult for a true allergy to be present. During dental surgery, the anesthetic can be inadvertently injected in a vessel and is a common occurence.

CONTACT NOW Answer: Need to come in to consult For unique cases where a variety of modalities could be used to treat the condition, I would suggest an in-person or virtual consultation to develop a custom and effective treatment plan. It is difficult to precisely define the best option without collecting the same information. I suggest reaching out to an expert for a consultation with surgical and non-surgical methods to get a comprehensive option. Best, Dr. Emer.

Answer: Considering Mini Lift But Concerned About Epinephrine and Adrenaline; Many Choices of Anesthetics Will Make Your Procedure Comfo A reaction to epinephrine or adrenaline is not uncommon, so most surgeons will be able to offer you a variety of alternatives to make your Mini Lift procedure comfortable. One option is a “twilight” anesthesia that avoids the longer recovery time of general anesthesia, but relaxes you sufficiently that you are just barely awake. Consulting with a facial plastic surgeon in person will allow you to discuss your concerns in more depth and come up with the best plan for anesthesia and bleeding control that takes your sensitivities into consideration. I hope this helps.

Answer: Anesthetic type I'm sorry to hear your experience with local anesthesia has not been pleasant. Most of the time, it is the epinephrine that causes the feelings of anxiety. That additive to the local anesthetic is very helpful to the facelift surgeon because it minimizes bleeding. Another solution would be to have you get a bit more sedation through an I.V., but there are downsides to that also. I'd meet with a surgeon near you to discuss the options. Best wishes
