I had an adverse reaction to otc collagen cream moisturizer and two days later these horrible ruts/bags under my eyes are still there! What is going on? My face is still red and a bit itchy. What can I do to get rid of these bags?!?

Answer: Why do I have sudden/overnight malar bags? Hello and thanks for the question! Malar bags are a result of the blood circulation around the eyes. The blood flow that drains back to the heart doesn't drain down the cheek. It drains into the central system of drainage via the vessels in the nose. Anything that causes nasal congestion causes the malar bags to be worse. Your issue may be from a topical reaction to the collagen cream moisturizer but a stuffy nose from any reason can cause them to be worse. (Allergy attack, sinus infection, cold or flu etc.). Even extra salt in the diet or when your rings are tighter due to excess fluid can cause the extra malar bags. Treatment can be simply treating the topical reaction or can include a combination of keeping the nose clear, if stuffy, limiting your salt intake, sleeping with your head slightly elevated, or even the spa treatments of cucumbers, tea bags or even Preparation H!By Best!John Standefer MD
