I have had my saline implants in for 22years. Do I need to exchange them? I have been reading about implant sickness, is this actually a true risk of having implants and if so, is it any more prevalent with saline vs silicone implants? Also, are there other risks more prevalent in either silicone or saline. I have had a couple of consults and silicone has been the suggested implant for my exchange.
Answer: Implants If you are happy with your size and have no issues, then just enjoy your implants. BII is a undefined diagnosis that is not yet specifically related to just implants. Recent toxicology studies do show toxins in the capsules. These toxins are not from the implants but often are found in hair dyes and tattoos. Some women, of course, are getting better when the toxins are removed.

Answer: Breast Implant Illness Dear Abby 123, The jury is still out on Breast Implant Illness or BII as to whether it is an identifiable condition attributable to breast implants. There is a symptom complex associated with BII that includes about 100 symptoms, the majority of which are also seen with other illnesses and many of which are also seen in natural aging. It is probably less likely to occur (if it is even a real illness) with saline implants, although it is reported to be possible. There is some very extensive research going on in plastic surgery right now at very reputable institutions to try to define and identify BII presence and causes. If you really believe that you may have BII, it makes absolutely no sense to replace your implants. Fear of BII alone does not disqualify you as a candidate for breast implant surgery (replacement), but again, if you have that fear, why do it? Good luck!

Answer: Implant exchange It is reasonable to exchange implants at this time. A silicone implant will give you a more natural feel with less wrinkling. Also the hewer gummy implants have a thicker gel which should be better tolerated with more superior fullness of your breasts.
