Chin bruising after Juvederm. Is that normal?

I’m not in pain, but my chin feels sore and tender. This is my first time trying fillers. On Friday I went to a Med Spa where an RN injected 3 syringes of Juvederm Voluma into my chin for projection as well as 5 units of Botox. I had a small barely visible bruise and now it’s gotten bigger and I have other little bruises. :( I have a promo modeling shoot on Friday and I’m aftaid makeup won’t cover this. I’ve been taking bromelain as well as arnica. Is this normal or???

Bruising can occur with injections. I recommend icing to give improvement. It can take 1-2 weeks for final results. Hope this helps.

Bruising after cosmetic filler procedure can happen.  Take into consideration if you are on blood thinners, you could definitely bruise.  Using arnica topicals, eating pineapple or even treating bruising with certain lasers can help speed the healing process of the bruising.

Yes, this can be typical. It can take 1-2 weeks for final results. Icing, cold compresses and VBeam treatments can give improvement. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

It is almost impossible to have your bruises resolved in such a short period of time. They will resolve but it will take time.You will need to be creative with make-up application based on the color theory and principles.The choice of the concealer's color depends on the color of the bruise - the initial red bruise can be concealed with green color, purple-blue bruises will require yellow tinted concealer and resolving yellow bruise will respond well to concealer with light purple or lavender tint. Otherwise must be patient. For the future, remember that more filler is injected, more injection points, the higher risk of bruising. There are other ways tom minimize the risk of bruising including using the smallest possible needle for injection which, sadly, is not the size of the needle provided with each filler syringe.Good luck!

Hello redsole93, yes bruising is a risk any time you are injected.  The chin does tend to bruise, and having 3 syringes injected will increase that risk.  Bromelain and arnica can both help with swelling and bruising.  I always recommend my clients ice for the first 72 hours post injection then start applying a warm moist compress to bring blood flow to the area.  This will help reduce the bruising, but keep in mind it can take up to 2 weeks for final healed results.  If you have any increased pain or or swelling to the area, please be sure to contact your injector.

Firstly, this is not the normal course of injections following Juvederm to the chin area. It is hard to comment on the injection technique, 3 ml of Juvederm into the chin seems excessive, but I do not have the hindsight of before photos. For chin augmentation in most patients, my average is 1.5 ml, with ranges of 0.4 to 3.5 mls noted, depending on your expectations and bone structure. Injection technique caused excessive bruising, the solution is arnica, and vascular pulsed dye laser- the later is an excellent method to reduce bruising FAST. Dr Isobel Walker, Brisbane, Australia.
