A biopsy is often needed to diagnose p. folliculitis - if this is positive, then Itraconazole can help, or fluconazole anti-fungal tablets. Chemical peels can be helpful, but to decrease yeast you can try natural remedies (don't usually work), or have this medically treated. Accutane can be used but like I said anti-yeast/ fungal meds are best. Acne can be treated with peels, vitamin A creams- retinol, as well as good skin care including correct use of cleansers, exfoliants and in females make up. The use low level laser emission devices such as blue light- omnilux as well as a variety of peels such as BHA or Lactic Acid peels can address acne. Diet plays an important role in the management of acne, as do supplements such as zinc. Finding the correct combination for your skin type is the key, as everyone has a unique pattern of acne. Some have blackead acne and clogged pores – peels and retinol help in this context. Some have papular pustular acne- phototherapy – LED, and Kleresca is indicated in this subgroup. Do not underestimate the importance of dietary control. If all else fails, a general dermatologist can prescribe medication to address hormonal issues, or tablets that decrease oil production. The most important concept to understand is that these devices are specially built for specific concerns, and most importantly each individual will have an ideal treatment based upon your skin type, as well as your ethnicity. Thermage is better for no downtime skin tightening in Ethnic skin, Ultherapy is more powerful and can be tailored and focused, Infini RF can be used for skin tightening but is better for scar revision, and Fraxel can be good for textural changes. We often combine different lasers and methods to get the end result - for example Infini and Fraxel in the same session to address BOTH skin tightening, as well as texture changes. My best advice is not to compare two devices, but to come up with a solution for your concerns. Dr Isobel Walker. Brisbane. Australia.
Firstly you should get your acne under absolute control. IMO alternating between Fraxel 1550 Dual and say a microneedling RF device such as Infini RF will give you a general improvement. These devices do not specifically target a particular scar type but will give you a general overall improvement in your acne scars. Dr Isobel Walker. Brisbane. Australia.
We treat right to the lid margins in most cases. The Fraxel 1927 and 1550 wavelengths do not penetrate into the deeper dermal layers. In most cases eye shields are used, in some cases internal shield. Safety on the eyelids is not an issue, if the procedure is performed correctly. Dr Isobel Walker. Brisbane. Australia.
The cause of Paradoxical Hyperplasia is still not fully understood. My latest reading is that it is more common in males, can not be predicted and is exceedingly rare. It can be treated with liposuction. No predictive values apart for males more than females. All the best, Dr Isobel Walker. Brisbane. Australia.
