Could I just get a tip lasty? (photos)

Question

I don't mind my nose side profile or nose generally but I wish my tip was more petite and slimmed down, what would you guys recommend? Could I just get a tip plasty instead of the full rhinoplasty? I want a cuter narrower version of my noses

Hi, yes you can do just the tip if that is the only part of your nose that bothers you.   The tip would be made smaller and more refined.  Recovery would be faster.  This can be done with either open or closed rhinoplasty.  But it will still be a rhinoplasty.

Based on these photos you seem to be good candidate for rhinoplasty. In person consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon, expert in rhinoplasty, would give  you a chance to discuss your goals and options. Most plastic surgery offices where rhinoplasty is frequently performed, will have available 3D simulation software so you can see your anticipated result and participate in surgery planning. Yes, you're a candidate for tip-plasty to help provide a more defined tip and less bulbosity. However, when you only operate on one part of the nose, the other parts may look different afterwards. Everything is related in rhinoplasty. In my opinion, all aspects should be addressed proportionally.

Based on your photos, you may have a wide nasal appearance in the lower, middle, and upper thirds of your nose. To achieve narrowing along your entire nose, bony work may be necessary. Hope this helps. Dr Joseph

A tip plasty will do very little. There are several things that need to be done. Your nose needs to be made narrower and shorter. That would require a full rhinoplast.

I find that computer imaging is a great way to see of a tip plasty would be sufficient to improve the appearance of your nose. Many patients who are only bothered by the size of their tip might also have a small hump or excess width of their bridge that is overwhelmed by the tip. We can simulate reduction of your tip with imaging and see if your nose is still in balance.

Nasal tip plasty versus full rhinoplasty: theoretically a nasal tip plasty could be performed independently of the rest of the rhinoplasty. However it is rare that modifying the tip alone will give an optimum result. Usually changing one aspect of the nose requires changing the rest of the nose so that there is conformity and harmony of all the elements. The percentage of patients who I have seen over the years who could benefit from nasal tip plasty without touching the rest of the nose is less than 1%.

Hello. Simply addressing the tip could work, however, it would be a very limited correction as there is some width to the middle and upper 1/3 of your nose. If your tip is made significantly narrower, it would be too refined as compared with the middle and upper one third and may look pinched. If you want an overall more slender/petite nose, you’d get a better result from addressing the tip width as well as the with of the upper 2/3 of the nose. Good luck

Improving the nasal tip to achieve an improved natural appearing cosmetic result is a frequent request of patients wanting nasal refinement. It is possible to improve the cosmetic appearance of the tip alone without altering the rest of the nose in some patients. Whether the optimal option in your particular situation would be a tip rhinoplasty alone or a full rhinoplasty would best be determined at a consultation. Either procedure can be performed with a closed or open approach.

Following the advice from a surgeon on this or any other website who proposes to tell you exactly what to do based on limited photos without examining you, physically feeling the tissue, assessing your desired outcome, taking a full medical history, and discussing the pros and cons of the operative procedure would not be in your best interest. I would suggest you find a plastic surgeon with extensive nasal surgery experience who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and ideally a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) or a facial plastic surgeon (otolaryngologist) that you trust and are comfortable with. You should discuss your concerns with that surgeon in person.
