Can you get MiraDry treatment without a medical hyperhidrosis diagnosis?

Question

I called a clinic offering MiraDry and they said that I needed to come in and get a medical diagnosis for hyperhidrosis. I don't think I really have a medical condition - I think I sweat about as much as the average person, but I just don't want to. If I go in, will I just be wasting my time? Or can anyone get the treatment? I don't see anything on the official MiraDry site that says a diagnosis is required. Thanks.

Thanks for this question.MiraDry is for anyone who feels excessive sweating from the underarm. One treatment will take care of 80% of the sweating by eradicating the sweat glands. It also help with odor tremendously.It is not just for hyperhidrosis.Best wishes, Dr. ALDO :)

The MiraDry procedure is for anyone who is concerned with underarm sweat, odor and the hair under their armpits.  You do not need a medical diagnosis for hyperhidrosis to have the procedure.  The MiraDry procedure is a great treatment for the patients who are embarrassed by their body odor, T-shirt stains, deodorant on their clothing and would like to feel more confident, fresh and clean.  In our office, we will talk with you in depth regarding the amount of sweat and body odor you experience.  Most patients need one treatment, but those with hyperhidrosis may need a second treatment.  If you are tired of your underarm sweat, then you are a great candidate!

Most of my patients do not have hyperhidrosis when they come to be treated with miradry.  Most are sick of smelling bad or having to wear deodorant all the time.  Others are sick of the stains on their clothes.

Great question! You do not need to have a medical diagnosis of Hyperhidrosis to be a good candidate for Miradry.  Many people choose to have the Miradry treatment because they (like you) do not want to sweat or wear antiperspirant or Deodorant.  The treatment is very safe and effective. You do not need to have a hyperhidrosis diagnosis to get miraDry. Anyone who wants to stop underarm sweating and stop using antiperspirant can have it done! If you don't like sweating under your arms then you should get a consultation with an experienced cosmetic dermatologist.

There are conditions where patients have underlying medical conditions that cause generalized sweating all over. You will not be wasting your time if you go in for the consutation.A good physician will always examine you and diagnose you before setting up a procedure. That is just good practice of medicine.
