I called a clinic offering MiraDry and they said that I needed to come in and get a medical diagnosis for hyperhidrosis. I don't think I really have a medical condition - I think I sweat about as much as the average person, but I just don't want to. If I go in, will I just be wasting my time? Or can anyone get the treatment? I don't see anything on the official MiraDry site that says a diagnosis is required. Thanks.

Answer: MiraDry Evaluation and Treatment The MiraDry procedure is for anyone who is concerned with underarm sweat, odor and the hair under their armpits. You do not need a medical diagnosis for hyperhidrosis to have the procedure. The MiraDry procedure is a great treatment for the patients who are embarrassed by their body odor, T-shirt stains, deodorant on their clothing and would like to feel more confident, fresh and clean. In our office, we will talk with you in depth regarding the amount of sweat and body odor you experience. Most patients need one treatment, but those with hyperhidrosis may need a second treatment. If you are tired of your underarm sweat, then you are a great candidate!

Answer: Miradry safety and hyperhidrosis Hyperhidrosis has many variants. It is, however, important to visit with a trained hyperhidrosis surgeon before doing any treatments. I would always err towards safety rather than a cookie cutter approach. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian Los Angeles
