An ad cites the safety of MiraDry on the basis that the microwaves only attack water and since the sweat glands have water and not the nerves and lymph nodes, only the sweat glands are affected. Hello? I'm sure nerves and lymph nodes are much more dense than sweat glands, still if they were totally without water they would be dessicated, clumps of dried dust. That dr.'s statement did give me pause. Again, if something sounds too good to be true .... There must be some damage to nerves and nodes.

Answer: Damage to nerves and lymph nodes Your thinking is valid, but risk is still extremely low. There is some fluid in those structures, but not as much as sweat glands. And those structures are deeper than your sweat glands. With the tumescent protocol, meaning saline, lidocaine and epinephrine injections, the sweat glands are elevated far away from the nerves and lymph nodes. The miraDry microwaves only penetrate 4-5mm so they do not reach important structures. With the old protocol, regular lidocaine with epinephrine was injected and this puffing effect that the tumescent fluid provides was not there. With that protocol, a lower setting was used on the machine which was less effective at eliminating all of the sweat glands. Love your critical thinking. Thanks for your question. I actually did the procedure to myself 2 weeks ago. Haven't had to wear deodorant since. And I worked through the whole week without issues. I have a very busy miraDry practice and no issues thus far. Please let me know if you have any further questions.Sincerely,Sheila Nazarian
