Hello! So I have been wanting a breast augmentation for a while now and I am at the researching phase of this journey. So a few months ago I got lip injections and my injector told me how i bleed so much and how she usually never has patients who bleed this much during lip injections. Since I am known to bleed a lot, does this put me at risk for capsular contracture? And what is the percentage of people getting it now? I have also been anemic and known to bruise very easily. Thank you!
Answer: Capsular contracture Dear girlybabe,Capsular contracture happens. In fact, every implant has a capsule form around it, its just a certain percentage develop thick capsules. There is a lot we don't know about it actually. Some think that bacteria that gets on the implant during insertion can increase the risk. Thats why we use a Keller Funnel in our practice to reduce that possibility. Our capsular contracture rate is less than 2% because we use a keller funnel as well as meticulous operating room techniques.Daniel Barrett, MD Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery Member, American Society of Plastic Surgery Member, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery

Answer: Risk of capsular contracture Thank you for your question. Your surgeon will take specific steps to reduce the risk of capsular contracture, such as using a non-touch technique during implantation and using an antibiotic irrigation. Best to discuss your health history thoroughly with your plastic surgeon. During your visit, your plastic surgeon will be able to address your specific concerns for a breast augmentation procedure. Best of luck.

Answer: Thank you for your question. There are different blood test that you can get that can determine if you are a bleeder or not. In addition one can determine what your anemia is secondary to. Sometimes it’s due to low iron or folate deficiencies. I would recommend that you see a hematologist to be evaluated. If the hematologist feels that you are not at increase risk for bleeding during surgery then you may be a candidate for a breast enlargement. There are a number of causes for developing capsular contracture. One is bleeding. For that reason I invented the bloodless breast enlargement technique (please see the video on our page). Some surgeons believe that a biofilm can also cause a capsular contracture. For this reason I utilize the no touch technique with a Keller funnel (also it is included in the video). I hope you find this information useful. Please watch the enclosed video.
