I did my breast augmentation surgery with a famous doctor 7 months ago, but I did not know I am prone to keloids until now. The incisions were under the breasts, each 5cm. The scars have turned into keloids and I have done 3 times of steroid injections to flatten the scars. They are now flattened but are still very big, red and ugly! What should I do? What type of laser should I try? Please help! I am using silicone dressing every day but it isn't getting any better. l am awfully devasted!!

Answer: Laser treatments combined with melarase creams to help with pigmentation Plastic surgery scars require attention after surgery so that they remain cosmetically-appealing and barely noticeable. In our office, we use a protocol for scars that minimizes their activity in the 6-8 weeks after surgery. If you have late plastic surgery scars, you may also require laser and RF therapy to help reduce the longterm effects of the scarring. Keloids, hypertrophic scars, widened scars, red scars, and hyperpigmented scars all require scar modulation with topical creams followed by lasers and RF therapy. Topical skincare should be directed to a specific need, whether for pigmentation or hypertrophy and our office can guide you through the process to obtain the correct Plato’s Scar cream or Melarase cream for hypertrophy and discoloration. In terms of lasers, we would employ the vbeam laser for redness, Venus Viva RF, PRP microneedling, chemical peels, and Morpheus 8, fractional erbium, or fractional co2. All of these have their individual benefits. Most of all, we recommend you visit a solid plastic surgeon who understands surgical scar revision, laser therapy, and RF therapy for scars. Answer: Scar Thank you for your question and photographs. Scars can take up to a full year to full mature. Redness frequently fades during this healing time. That being said, laser is an option for lightening a red scar. Best to seek care with an experienced physician who can direct you regarding laser options or consider a scar revision after 1 year. Best of luck.

Answer: You should see a continued improvement in your scarring. Sorry to hear you’re having a frustrating experience with scarring after breast augmentation. However, it sounds like you’re taking all the right steps to help minimize their appearance, and I would recommend sticking to the treatment regimen that you’ve discussed with your plastic surgeon. Laser treatments can help to reduce redness, and you should be able to see a good outcome. Keep in mind that it can take up to 18 months for scars to completely heal and mature, so with time, your scars should continue to improve.
