Can I have plastic surgery while I’m on metoprolol? Arrhythmia

I’m thinking about to get a breast augmentation done soon My cardiologist prescribed metoprolol to me because I have fast hearts beats (arrhythmia)which come and go but since I’m on the medication they don’t come as often as they used to be ?he said the only reason he might be concerned is when I wake up from anesthesia and my heart start to beat fast :(

Hi there and thanks for your question! Yes it is absolutely okay to take metoprolol for your breast augmentation surgery as long as you are cleared by your cardiologist beforehand.  You will also need clearance from your primary care doctor as well.  Hope this helps and best of luck!

As long as your arrhythmia is controled under medication, and your doctor or cardiologist says it's safe you can have BA. The plastic surgeon and anesthesiologist should know about this issue prior to surgery.

Dear Nati.   Breasts augmentation surgery is one of the best investment that you can make in yourself. It will increase your confidence, your self esteem, your sense of femininity and will make shopping fun...   But, the surgery has to be safe. So obtain you clearance for surgery from your cardiologist and it will be in your best interest to have the surgery done in the hospital , in case that your arrhythmia  gets out of hand , requiring cardiologist on the premise.   You have to realize though, that not all results are the same , because experience, technical skills and aesthetic eye are critical for good outcome. As long as they have fully worked things up and are comfortable with you having a one hour surgery, then there is no problem. Thank you for your question.This question needs to be directed at your Cardiologist. That is the doctor that should make sure that you are healthy enough to under go anesthesia. You need to make your PS and the Anesthesiologist aware of the medications you are on prior to surgery, but Cardiologist is the one that makes the decision if it is safe.

In this case, your plastic surgeon will ask for your cardiologist 's approval prior to proceeding with surgery. Keep in mind that no surgery is risk free, and you need to have a lengthy discussion with your surgeon about the risks involved and what his/her plan is for your particular surgery.
