I am looking to get rhinoplasty done and I had a few consultations in Turkey (I'm from London). I am drawn to one surgeon but he doesn't seem as qualified as others with only one board certificate. What is the importance of a board certificate in Europe?

Answer: Finding the right surgeon for rhinoplasty Hello and thank you for your question. It is very important that you thoroughly research your surgeon before committing to surgery. It is a good idea to research your surgeon's educational background, board certification, online reviews, before & after pictures, and speak with anyone who you may know who has had surgery with that surgeon. Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and not just a computer animation system. You should be able to view numerous pictures of actual patients with noses similar to yours performed by your surgeon. If you cannot find enough real before and after pictures, then consider continuing your search for a surgeon. During your consultation, make sure that you don't feel rushed and make sure that you have adequate time with your surgeon and not just their patient coordinator or nurses. If the majority of your consultation is spent with someone other than the surgeon, this is usually not a good sign. The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. Best wishes and good luck. Richard G. Reish, M.D. FACS Harvard-trained plastic surgeon

Answer: Should I get rhinoplasty with a surgeon with only one board certification in Turkey? If you live outside of the United States, the surgeon should ideally be a member of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS). There are excellent rhinoplasty surgeons in Turkey with those credentials. You should discuss your concerns with that surgeon in person. Robert Singer, MD FACS La Jolla, California
