In November last year I had 360 vaser liposuction. I wasn't particularly overweight, but I had some upper abdominal fat that I'd had for years that wouldn't shift. I was advised on 360 due to the superior contouring results, which I wanted. I accept that swelling can take up to 12 months to completely go but I do have concerns. I've read on this forum that Morpheus8 might improve the result? Images attached are pre op, 12hrs post op, 2 months post op and now 7 months post op. Please advise
Answer: The need for revision surgery Liposuction results are final at three months. By six months results are 75% a final. The only thing that takes longer is the skin incisions which continue to improve for as long as 18 months. You didn’t include what you don’t like about the outcome. Your results look a bit uneven and correct in a poorly done. Liposuction results is difficult. This is especially true if the procedure was done aggressively with energy base devices, like VASER. Delivering consistent quality, liposuction, results is more difficult than most people realize. The number of plastic surgeons who truly mastered this procedure are in a small minority. Being board-certified and plastic surgery, despite having years of practice, and an overall good reputation does not mean somebody has mastered any particular procedure, especially procedures that can be difficult like Liposuction. Most plastic surgeons think they’re far better at Liposuction than they actually are. Liposuction has more variation in outcomes based on provider selection than any other plastic surgery operation I’ve ever seen. Consider that revision surgery is far more difficult than primary liposuction, and the need for provider selection becomes even greater. For anybody seeking Liposuction, I recommend they have multiple in person consultations before considering scheduling any permanent irreversible body contouring procedure. During each consultation, ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before, and after pictures of previous patients who had similar body characteristics to your own. an experienced plastic surgeon should have no difficulty showing you the before and after pictures of at least 50 previous patients. There’s no correct number of consultations needed to find the right provider. Considering how much inconsistency there is and Liposuction results I suggest patient start the process by having at least five in person consultations before considering scheduling surgery. finding the right provider to do Revision Work is more or less the same as finding providers to do primary Liposuction. The best providers at Revision Work tend to be the same providers who do the best primary procedures. The only exception to this is Nguyen fat transfer is needed to improve the outcome in which case plastic surgeons need to be vented for both Liposuction and fat transfer experience. Liposuction is very much I didn’t do it once do it right type of a procedure. If quality results are not obtained from the first procedure, the chance of getting a quality outcome goes down with each attempt. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
