I am about to be 8/9 months PO & one of my nostrils is beginning to move up and shows a lot asymmetry (i am aware perfect symmetry is impossible) but it's honestly pretty noticeable and was not there pre op. i want to see if i it could be swelling and may possibly go down on it's own/with steroid shots or if in order to fix this I’ll have to get a revision. now i feel insecure about my front profile which wasn't an issue before, i just want it to be brought down a bit
Answer: Mild nostril asymmetry eight months after rhinoplasty is not uncommon. If you have mild nostril asymmetry that persists one year after surgery, microdroplet Silikon, 1000 injections may be considered for achieving symmetry. Hope this helps! Sincerely, Dr. Joseph.

Answer: Revision Rhinoplasty Hi @laniiii138459! Nostril asymmetry will not likely improve with steroid injections. A revision rhinoplasty may be necessary, but I would wait at least 12 months for all swelling to subside. Best of luck!

Answer: What you should know about rhinoplasty recovery Thank you for your question and for providing photos. You’re correct that perfect symmetry is impossible to achieve, and though much of the swelling is reduced within four months, your nose will be in a phase of recovery for at least one year following rhinoplasty. It is generally suggested to wait until this entire recovery process is complete to see the final results before considering a revision procedure. After eight months, the asymmetry is unlikely to be caused by swelling, though an in-person evaluation is necessary to know for sure. When considering a revision, it’s important to note that each subsequent nose surgery becomes more complex due to loss of structural support, scar tissue, and other factors. The importance of experience, expertise, and artistry cannot be overstated. I recommend scheduling an in-person consultation with an experienced, board-certified facial plastic surgeon, with expertise in rhinoplasty techniques. They will be able to review your surgical history, oversee your recovery process, and help you decide on the best way to go forward.

Answer: Nostril Asymmetry Hello! Thanks for your questions. Nostril asymmetry is not likely to improve with steroid injections unless substantial swelling is causing the distortion. If that's the case, Kenalog for example can be given carefully roughly every 3-4 weeks until effect is seen. A revision may be needed but waiting at least 12 months is recommended. At that time, any swelling should be gone and true plans can be made for adjustment. Hope this helps!

Answer: 8 months post rhinoplasty - Can nostril asymmetry be corrected with steroid injections or will I need a revision? Hello @laniiii138459, thank you for your question. It is important to remember that we aren't completely equal on both sides; there are always some differences that may or may not be noticeable. It is wise to keep this in mind when setting expectations and planning your surgery. It is important to clarify with a treating physician how long it is prudent to wait for changes. For more information and recommendations, consult with one or several board certified plastic surgeons. . Best wishes! Alan Gonzalez MD, FACS.
