Doxycycline after Botox injections?

Question

Hello! I recently (9 days ago) received 12 units of Botox in my frown lines. Shortly after what I thought was a spider bite on my arm was cultured and came back as MRSA. I now have been put on doxycycline 100mg 2xday for 10 days. However I have read that there could be interactions between Botox and tetracycline and now I am super freaked out! Both the prescribing Dr and pharmacy have little knowledge on Botox. Please help!

Hello and thanks. Your Botox is already bonded in the target receptors by the time you started using Doxycycline. I doubt you will have any side effects. Treating your infection is a priority and I also agree you should be cultured to see if you're an MRSA carrier. Best wishes, Dr. ALDO :)

Doxycycline will not interfere with your botox treatment or results.  It is safe to take when you are having injectables.

Hello California Dream'n,Thank you for sharing your concerns with us. Short answer is no need for concern. Doxycycline will not have a negative impact on Botox as Botox will not have a negative impact on Doxycycline. Proceed with your treatment without further worry.

Thank you for your question.  A number of my patients are on doxycycline or similar antibiotics for weeks at a time for acne.  I have many of these patients with Botox with excellent results.  I don't believe a clinically significant interaction is likely.  I hope you feel better soon.

There are some antibiotics that have an effect on the duration of Botox but Doxycycline is not one of them.

I am sorry to hear about your situation. Botox is a purified protein used
to address wrinkles associated with facial expression. Certain antibiotics called aminoglycosides may potentiate the effects of Botox, but doxycycline is not in this category. If I had a patient taking doxycycline after a Botox treatment I would tell her not to be concerned about the possible interaction it may have with a Botox treatment. Please consult with a doctor for specific

Absolutely! If you are concerned that your doctor has little knowledge on Botox, they may not be the best doctor for you - you should feel great about your doctor's knowledge base! Also, doxycycline may not be the best antibiotic for MRSA unless the culture specifically suggested that it was an antibiotic that your strain of MRSA was sensitive to - be sure to check with the prescribing doctor on this. If I were you  I would not be worried at all about taking doxycycline  for the infection you have .  After The Infection has cleared up  I would ask to have your nose cultured to make sure you are not a carrier if MRSA
