Vacation three weeks post op. Is it safe to go after Mommy Makeover?

I am scheduled for a mommy makeover 6/1/2017. Tummy tuck and breast augmentation , with lipo. I was just " gifted" a trip to Dominican Republic by my older sister only 2 1/2 weeks post op of my surgery :/. She did not know i was getting the surgery .. ( I was keeping it a secret ). Is it safe to go ? I really don't want to miss the opportunity to go

The best advice I can offer is to ask the surgeon who performs your tummy tuck and breast augmentation with lipo for his/her opinion.  Recovery time from a MM may require 6 weeks or longer before vigorous exercise or strenuous activity can be resumed.  If you will be just sitting and relaxing on the beach or by the pool, you might be OK.  Be cautious that you do not overdo sunbathing or allow your incisions to come in contact with ocean or pool water.  Should you have any concerns or complications while on vacation, your surgeon will be thousands of miles away.  Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon

Hello and thank you for your question! This comes up often. This will be a great discussion for you and your surgeon to have prior to your mommy makeover.  Typically, you should be able to travel at 3 weeks post-op. I would recommend wearing your compression stockings during your flight, you will also be very limited in your activities. Your surgeon will likely recommend no water activities for at least 6 weeks post-op. You will need to remember your medication and your sunscreen over your incisions and hopefully make the best of your gifted trip! Best of luck to you and safe travels!

At three weeks it should be ok for you to fly, though you want to be sure to stay well hydrated, walk when able, and consider using compression hose.  You will still be in recovery from surgery and will likely tire quickly and have activity and lifting restrictions.  You still may be quite swollen, especially from the plane ride.  I recommend speaking with your surgeon regarding your plans.  He/She will best be able to advise you due to familiarity of your history and the surgical plan.

Thank you for your question! Most plastic surgeons would recommend only a light activity at 2 1/2 weeks post op. Thus, I would advise avoiding taking a long trip as it may interfere with your recovery process. Another major concern for you is exposure to sunlight. Tanning involves ultraviolet radiation, which may adversely impact your scars and other areas of your skin. Wearing sunblock does not guarantee protection from sun damage, which is why most surgeons would recommend you to avoid direct sunlight for 4-6 months. 
An in-person exam with a board-certified plastic surgeon is the best way to assess your needs and obtain expert medical advice. Best of luck!

Your best resource is your surgeon.  If you do travel, stay out of the sun and walk when time allows on the plane.  You could get very uncomfortable sitting.  I would recommend moving the surgery up to avoid any problems.
