Typically we tell our patients that we can repierce the earlobe 6 weeks after the surgery to repair it. This is usually included in the total of the surgery.
Earlobe repair is a common procedure in our plastic surgery office. I employ a technique that involves removing the excess scar tissue and reapproximating the tissue planes in multiple layers to recontour the earlobe after gauges, torn earlobes, or stretched out earlobes. Sometimes, the same procedure is used to restore contour to a pixie ear after facelift surgery or facial surgery. Gauge correction is a popular treatment. Insurance typically does not cover the procedure in California, but it all depends on your insurance policy. Costs are typically between six hundred dollars and one thousand dollars depending on the complexity of the repair. Pixie ear repair involves correction of the facelift flap and is a more complex procedure that requires anesthesia. Aftercare for earlobe repair involves proper wound care, Plato’s Scar Serum at least twice daily, with repiercing of the earlobe if requested, in 6 weeks. It is best to have a plastic surgeon perform the procedure and help with scars in the post-procedure period. Plato’s Scar Serum, wound care, and Neosporin are used. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian
We recommend waiting two monthsuntil re-piercing the ears after having an earlobe repair. This gives the earsenough time to heal after the procedure.
I usually tell my patients to wait about 2 months or so. By that time, scars should be strong enough to handle a piercing.
How long does it take to healEarly healing for #earlobeReduction occurs in the first week. There are always asymmetries before andafter. Scars are generally well hiddenand may have a small amount of redness and that persists for several months. This can be treated with scar creams and laser. Re-piercing can be done 3 to 6 weeks after surgery. Swelling is usuallysignificant in the first several weeks and some can persist for a few monthsbut not as common.
I would suggest that waiting 6-12 weeks post earlobe reduction would be the optimum in order to ensure you are well healed and totally pain free.I always like to see my patients prior to ear piercing just to give them the go aheadHope this helps
Thank you for your question. After your procedure we like you to wait at least 6 weeks before repiercing your ear.Hope this helps
After earlobe reduction, I have my patients wait 6 weeks before having them re-pierced.
Thank you for your question. I recommend my patients wait at least 6-8 weeks before re-piercing their ears following earlobe surgery. Best of luck to you!
Wound healing is done in about eight weeks after that the scar will mature for many months. If you repierce before eight weeks you risk the earring pulling through again. I always suggest that people wait at least four months so that you have a very soft normal feeling earlobe before you re-pierced. If the earlobe still feels firm at all with scar tissue then I would wait a little longer.Good luck!
Earlobe surgery is composed of several techniques that can either repair torn earlobes (split earlobes) or correct overly redundant earlobe tissue from piercings or genetics or stretching. Our HIDEF earlobe repair includes a recontouring of the earlobe contour using multilayered sutures to...
