Is Liposuction okay w/o post op meds (steroid-prednisone) ??

Question

liposuction w/o post op steroid for swelling okay?? I have a heavy intolerance/interaction with the prednisone prescribed post op for lipo. My doc states its fine NOT to take it, but my last lipo experience I swelled bad. Isn't that dangerous?? blood clots more susceptible? Need 2nd opinion please

It is absolutely ok NOT to take steroids after liposuction.  I would venture to say a large population if not the majority of surgeons do not employ this practice as part of their standard postoperative regimen.  Other techniques such as compression garments, massage, and even diuretics can be used.  Good luck!

Yes, it is OK to NOT take steroids after liposuction.  Most doctors wouldn't prescribe steroids for a liposuction case anyway.  Be sure to wear your compression garment, and otherwise follow the instructions of your doctor.  Best of luck!

I do not use steroids post operative liposuction.  Massage, hyperbaric oxygen, oral diuretics and compression and RF treatments like venus legacy or velashape all help decrease the swelling more quickly.  Best, Dr. Emer.

I personally have never prescribed oral steroids for liposuction patients. Not taking them after liposuction should be fine and has a matter of fact it's probably preferred.
