Recovering from Mommy Makeover with Little Support

Question

I am scheduled to get an extended tummy tuck (with no muscle repair), lipo 360, as well as lipo on my upper back and chin in May. I am spending the first night after surgery in the hotel attached to the clinic with a PSW but otherwise will have little support. A family member has offered to check on me, but no one can stay with me 24/7. Will I be able to manage mostly on my own for the first week, or should I hire someone to be with me?

You will be sore and uncomfortable for a couple of weeks. You may have post op appointments with your surgeon.. It may be a good idea to have someone helping you, especially the first week.

An extended tummy tuck is a procedure that comes with many post-op restrictions. I would suggest that you clarify your postoperative restrictions with your plastic surgeon. I would suggest that either you find someone who can be with you most of the time for the first week, to assist you with day to day tasks and help you to avoid violating your postoperative restrictions, or you might consider rescheduling your surgery time to a time when you would have more support.

It is best if you have someone with you for the first few days.  You may need assistance when getting up and down from bed or a chair, changing dressings, etc.  Speak with your surgeon about home health nurses who you may be able to hire for the first few days of recovery.

In my opinion you should try to have someone with you for that first week.  Even though you are not having muscle repair, you are still having big surgeries.  It is best to have some help so that you can give your body the time it needs to heal.  Doing too much too soon after surgeries can prolong healing and lead to more swelling and pain.
