Azzalure and Botox are purified proteins derived from a bacteria, which when injected into a muscle temporarily stops the signal from the nerves to the muscle so it can stay relaxed for 3-5 months and then regain its normal activity. It does not travel in the body and is a local injection. Azzalure (dysport) which is available in Europe, contains in addition lactose which is derived from milk protein but is a purified form of the protein without any hormones. It may not be a good option for patients who are sensitive to lactose. Botox, on the other hand, does Not contain lactose and will be a safe option for lactose intolerant individuals.
