I heard that true phenol is the deepest peel and it is basically a full thickness burn that can be done only once, the skin changes loses it's elasticity, in some cases pigment and sensitive to UV for life. By the way does phenol eliminate black heads? Will I be able to do facial plastic surgery after phenol peel? (nose job, face slimming ext.) if not, are there lasers that can give similar dramatic results as phenol peel?

Answer: Phenol Peel Concerns Indeed phenol is the deepest peel, but with this also comes the possibility of more complications. In our practice we reserve phenol to ONLY be used infraorbitally (under eye), or the white portion of the upper lip region. We reserve full face, deep resurfacing to the traditional CO2 full ablative laser. Phenol used in a large surface area cannot be absorbed by the body and can lead to other complications and also the potential for scarring is real. Therefore, even with my extensive experience I do not use the full face phenol peel. As to your question concerning plastic surgery after a phenol peel or full ablative laser, after a certain time period (determined by your physician), I do not see any reason that you would not be able to proceed with surgery. I hope this helps. S.R. Waldman, M.D.

Answer: Phenol/ Croton oil Phenol/ Croton oil peel is an excellent peel when is done properly for the good candidates. The good candidates should have light skin colors, dark skin individuals are not a good choice for this peel. Phenol/ Croton oil peel makes permanent discoloration of skin & is very very effective for sun damaged skin with lines & wrinkles. You can have facial plastic surgery after phenol peel. It may help the black heads, but that is not an indication for doing phenol peel . I can get the best results with phenol/ croton oil peel in a right patient, better than any laser treatment.
