I have always been self conscious of my neck and jaw area -- I have had excess fat and loose looking skin since my twenties, no matter what weight I have been. I am 5'11" and a bit over 200lbs, so a little bigger, but I still live a healthy lifestyle. My grandmother had the same issue and she was thin her entire life. After getting engaged last year and thinking about my wedding photos, I knew that I wanted to look into getting a procedure that would help me look forward to seeing profile view photos of myself marrying the love of my life. After researching many doctors in the Portland metro area, I found Dr. Bensimon through this site and saw that another plus size woman mention that Dr. Bensimon never made an issue of her weight. That made me excited to meet him and when I saw on his website that he had actually invented a special needle for liposuction of the double chin area, I became extra excited. I felt very fortunate to have found a doctor who was not just highly trained, but also a leading contributor to the field of specialty procedure that I was interested in -- right in my own city! Meeting Dr. Bensimon was lovely. He was kind and funny and looked at my areas of concern and he communicated his vision for what changes he could make and I could not have been happier. Because I am 38, I was concerned that I would need a necklift in addition to the liposuction, but I also wanted to be conservative with how much work I had done. Dr. Bensimon was on the same page, and though he said I could have a necklift, he felt that with the tools and techniques that he invented himself, he could achieve the change I wanted with liposuction alone. Music to my ears! The staff at the center were very lovely leading up to my surgery and after, and the surgery went well and I was back at work in less than a week. I go in for a 12 week follow up today, so hopefully I can get some good before and after photos from the office, as I didn't get any myself. My chin and jawline look so lovely and youthful compared to what they used to look like. So many people have commented that I look like I have lost weight (I am the same weight) and I no longer feel dread when people take candid photos of me! Thank you for that Dr. Bensimon! I did consult with one other doctor who had good reviews just to be certain before booking with Dr. Bensimon, and my experience was less than stellar. I was told that I would need a lift and lipo (for double the cost and recovery time) and that I should try to lose 10-15 pounds "to make the procedure easier" -- the waiting area at that other doctors' office was very hectic and there were many patients confused about their bills and it was like night and day compared to the professionalism of the amazing staff and privacy at the Bensimon Center. Do yourself a favor and if you are looking to have liposuction in the neck/jaw area, go to a true artist and a leader in the field, Dr. Bensimon!
Really good doctor described everything in depth made me feel comfortable and was straight to the point didn't want me to get anything more or push me to do anything I didn't want to do.. did an amazing job
I had a facelift with Dr. Bensimon one month ago. I was amazed at how little discomfort I experienced post-procedure. I didn't need prescription pain killers, only advil for a few days. As expected, in the first week after the facelift my whole face was somewhat swollen, experienced some tightness around the neck and some discomfort around my ears where the sutures were (more of an annoyance than actual pain). I also had a small bruise in my chin area and one in my left temple, but both were easily covered with make up. Two weeks after surgery I was still a little swollen around the jaw and neck areas, but no one could notice it. My experiences with Dr. Bensimon and his staff have been outstanding (I also had breast augmentation done about 10 years ago). The facelift has brought me back to how I looked 10 or 15 years ago. It really is amazing how easy and painless the whole process was.
My experience with the doctor was good but not great. Back story, I saw a general surgeon for my umbilical hernia, I have 4 children and I carried very pointy/football style so my belly button never went back in. My youngest is 3 1/2 and yes, my belly button has always bothered me but not until I had a sharp weird pain in the middle of the night did I decide to go to the drs about it. After speaking to the general surgeon on the procedure I would need to get it repaired and the potential out of pocket cost I would have I decided to look into getting a tummy tuck with a plastic surgeon since both surgeries would leave me with a hip to hip scar. After a few virtual and in person consultations with PS I learned that I was limited on who will preform a TT with an actual umbilical hernia that needs to be repaired. I was between Dr. Bensimon and another PS in my area. I choose Dr. Bensimon because of his Drainless method and his post work pictures scares look so much better! The reason I have taken a while to post my review (I am almost 3 months Post Op) is because I am not super thrilled with my results and I have wanted to give it time to see what changes and maybe I will feel different. I don't! My Tummy tuck is not very tight, I feel like I need way more lips, My scar is high on the sides not easily hidden without having to wear high waisted bottoms, My flanks/love handles seem like I got zero lipo and I still have a significant amount of stretch marks. I also decided to do a breast augmentation at the same time and I really think the scars are low and can be seen as soon as I raise my arms in a bra. My boobs don't seem like they are the same size and that has been mentioned to me from a friend just 3 weeks post op with clothes on and everything. I also think I needed a lift and so I would not be comfortable going braless even though I just paid how much for this. Yes, my stomach is flatter, my bellybutton is back to normal but really I do not feel like a new women. I still have to be careful what I wear. I am constantly pulling up my jeans to hide my scar on the sides and am really not sure if it was worth it. I’m going to try to add more pictures but right now they are to large to add it says. Updated on 16 Nov 2021: This picture really shows how high up my incision is on my hip. I drew a line so you can see it is clearly all the way up to my bellybutton on the sides. I do not feel like this was a life altering surgery let alone one worth the amount I paid. Some days I wish I would have just done the hernia repair and then did a mommy makeover because I would have been able to have a much wider selection of PS. I have addressed my concerns with my PS and he doesn’t exactly here or see my concerns and says my results are great. I got a quote for lipo, flanks back and bra strap another $10,000. I think that is way to much especially since I’m not overly thrilled in the first place. Also I do have a short torso but I have not seen others with this problem on here
Dr. Bensimon and his staff took great care of me from my very first phone call to the office. His kind bedside demeanor, deliberate and detailed surgical plans combined with his experience in body sculpting gave me the outcome I have always dreamed of. I felt completely at ease throughout my surgical day and my results exceeded my expectations. I had bilateral hip and outer thigh liposuction. So happy.
I had Rhinoplasty with Dr. Bensimon May 13, 2021. I'm extremely happy with the experience and my results! (And I'm still slightly bruised and swollen). Dr. B genuinely cares about his patients and the outcome of their surgery results. I could tell right away at my consult he loves what he does. The entire staff is kind and caring. Consultation: The facility is absolutely beautiful! Even he surgery room! I was welcomed and felt comfortable from the moment I walked in. Danell greeted me and checked me in. (She's also taken a million my calls and is always so patient and helpful.) soon I was taken back to a room and made comfortable. Dr. B came in and explained everything about Rhinoplasty, answered all my questions and discussed my expectations. Later that day Wendy called me to I've me my price quote and schedule me. She is also very kind and helpful! Pre-Op Appointment:
Dr.Bensimon and the staff are wonderful. They answered all my questions and put my fears aside. I’m so happy that Dr.Bensimon is the one I trusted with to proceed with my surgery. My Recovery is pain free, I am feeling so good. Definitely doesn’t feel like I just had major surgery! I’m only 9 days post op but my results are already making me love my new stomach! A huge thank you to the Bensimon Center!
A+++ it’s 5 weeks post-surgery. I feel amazing. Actually, 2.5 weeks after the procedure, I was able to fly from the West Coast to the East Coast. My recovery has been smooth as silk. Not 1 issue. He’s the Best! I was preparing for the worst-case scenario. I slept comfortably the first two days. Up and walking by 3rd day. About 10 days in, I was completely standing straight. Dr. Bensimon performed the drainless Tummy Tuck. He is so kind, comforting. Completely thorough with answering any of my questions. His staff is so kind and knowledgeable. Oh, and the facility is so awesome and clean. It’s at the Bensimon Center. I felt so safe there. I am an LMT and understand the trauma going completely under causes our bodies. Having this type of procedure made the recovery so much easier. My girlfriend had a mini tuck and was amazed how well my recovery was compared to hers. The after look. Omgosh, I have never felt my abs in my entire life. Even as a young fit teenager. Now, I feel them. I’m so excited to get the okay to start working out! Let’s talk about my new belly button. It looks so good. I’ll be honest the whole thing about a new belly button totally grossed me out. But mine looks so good. Even Dr. Bensimon is proud of how GREAT looks. It’s been 5 weeks and I’m ready to go back in for more procedures. If you are considering any plastic surgery, Do yourself a favor and look into Dr. Bensimon of Portland.
Dr. Bensimon is fabulous. He is kind, caring and honest. He did what suited me, and gave me exactly what I asked for. I know it's hard to trust just anyone, but I put my full trust in Dr. Bensimon and I won't let any other surgeon touch me ever again. The staff at his clinic are the kindest, most caring people you will ever meet. Lastly, the recovery was quick and painless. Lisa P.
Dr. Bensimon has wonderful bedside manner. His entire staff was so caring and lovely. I had very little discomfort the sedation and not having to be put fully under as well as his pain relief method made recovery incredibly easy. I did not have to lose weight before the procedure and the results are perfect for my frame. I have never been thin always had a lot of muscle but 4 large babies completely separated my abdominal muscles and physical therapy and personal training made no difference. Breast lift with areola reduction (not an implant) was easy as well and they are very perky. He has a very innovative method and I don’t have scars under my breasts at all. Unfortunately real self keeps flipping the pictures of my breasts around. I’ll try to fix that with updated picture. That was the same day I had the surgery. Happy to answer any questions!
Dear tantansansan,The name "phenol peel" is confusing because all phenol peels contain croton oil. Years ago, it was thought that phenol was the peeling agent, but it has been clearly shown that phenol without croton oil does not peel. The depth of the peel depends mainly on the concentration of the croton oil and the application technique. The skin of the face is different than elsewhere because it is relatively thicker and has a high proportion of sweat glands and hair follicles. This is important because it is these "pilosebaceous units" that allow the skin to heal from the injury of the peel. The skin of the neck, for example, does not have the healing potential of facial skin and peeling here must be done with extreme caution and never with the intent of improving wrinkles. The skin elsewhere is even more delicate. Peeling with phenol alone does very little on the face, but may have a bleaching effect in other places, such as the hands. I have been peeling for 20 years and I am constantly trying new formulas. Who better to try these out on than on me? I have multiple marks and small scars on my arms and legs from these experiments. The point is that the margin of error is very small and peeling outside the face with even phenol alone is not advisable. On the other hand(!), phenol/croton oil peels of the face are far and away the premier modality for treating wrinkles and sun damage. There is simply no comparison in quality of result and longevity.
Hidden Beauty1996,You pose good questions and also have some misconceptions. Let's take it piece by piece. Phenol (phenol/croton oil) peels are indeed deep peels, but it should never be full-thickness as that would creat a scar. These peels create an injury that brings about a healing reaction that results in new, very stable, and thick collagen. It also results in new elastin cells, the springy part of the skin. The net effect is thicker skin with increased elasticity! This is in essence younger skin which is also healthier. The skin will be normal and not more sensitive to UV light. There is no issue with future surgery. I have been peeling for 20 years and I can assure you with authority that there is no laser or other modality that can compare with these remarkable peels.
Dear yreutishi223,Thank you for your question as it is an important one and also a source of some confusion. You mention a phenol peel, but most likely you mean a phenol/croton oil peel. These peels began being used by doctors in the early 60's and the formula used consistently left the skin hypopigmented, that is an unnatural white. For this reason, it was taught and practiced that you could not peel darker skin. In early 2000, thanks to the work of Gregory Hetter, it became understood that the whitening of the skin was caused by a too high concentration of croton oil. By altering the formulas, skin could be peeled to excellent clinical results while avoiding the troublesome lightening of the skin. The other, very important result was that by individualizing the formulas, darker skin could be peeled. An important aspect is to adequately prepare the skin with medicated products to stabilize the pigment cells. My name became associated with these peels, therefore, 8 years ago , Iwas contacted by a Mexican surgeon inquiring about peeling Hispanic skin as they were very dissatisfied with laser resurfacing. We organized a special seminar in Mexico and in two days peeled 19 patients! As was the case in most Hispanic groups, there was a range of skin color. The formulas were prepared for specific needs, and the results were quite good. One constant was thay daeker patients tended to have less wrinkles and more blotching and pigment issues. Because of this, the formulas and technique can be altered to target this. This also applies to Asian skin. What we found was that darker skin could certainly be peeled and that patients needed to be careful about the sun early on so as not to darken the skin. I recommend that you ask your surgeon about their training and experience and look at photos of results. The thought that you cannot peel darker skin is an outdated idea.Good luck!
Dear 7878x,I think it is much too early after your peel to make any judgements on the result. I am a very experienced peeler and it appears to me that you have had a significantly deep peel. An experienced peeler will treat the skin to the appropriate depth for a good clinical result but it is more important to go to a safe depth. Once that is reached, the skin is allowed to heal and then if a re-peeling is called for it can be done. If you peel too deep, and there is scarring, this is much worse. As a general rule, the results of deep peels are very long lasting, but a revision now and then may be necessary. Often, these revisions are minor. Don't think that the need of a revision means that it wasn't done well, rather that it was done safely. Good Luck!
Dear extraoneoneone,Why would you be getting a peel if you've had a facelift? Because a facelift does nothing to improve the quality of the skin! More specifically, a facelift does absolutely nothing to improve the wrinkles around the mouth. Sometimes, the general improvements of the facelift bring the pronounced wrinkles around the mouth into greater prominence ruining the result. A facelift improves the structure of the face and the peel improves the quality of the skin and dramatically improves the wrinkles. Sun damage and blotches are improved and the skin demonstrates an intangible, youthful luminosity that no surgery can achieve. I have been peeling for 20 years, and I have come to learn that many patients are more concerned with the quality of the skin rather than the sagging and may appreciate the result of a peel more than a facelift. I have been teaching peeling to plastic surgeons since 2003 and I am often asked that if a patient needs both a facelift and a peel, which to do first? I reply with a coy smile to do the facelift first because if you peel first, they may be so happy they will skip the facelift! And now back to your question: The peel will not harm the scar and it may well improve it. If properly performed, the color of your skin will not lighten. Good luck!
