Bruising 14 months after tear trough filler?

Question

Hello I had tear trough filler by a ps in October of 2016. There is still very light bruises under each eye and almost a small ridge. How long does it take for the filler to fully dissolve? I am assuming the discoloration is Tyndall Effect as I thought hemosederin staining would be gone by now

Dear Melissa,Its common to have a blue cast to the skin in the lower eyelid region after filler placement. This is called the Tyndall Effect and is due to light passing through the skin and illuminating the filler in this area. The best option would be Hyaluronidase to dissolve the filler here. I'll include a link to the video for this below.I hope this was helpful .

This is most likely the Tyndall effect from superficially placed filler. I recommend following up with your injector. The filler can be reversed with hyaluronidase. I hope this helps.

Hi Melissa.  Although the photo is not great, the Tyndall effect looks bluish or grayish and your photo appears to show a darkened area.  Hemosiderin staining is more likely and does not necessarily resolve in 14 months, or at all in some cases.  
We use gentle q-switched laser treatments to coax that pigment out.

This is not bruising 14 months after the treatment. It may represent Tyndall from superficially placed filler. The ridge probably is the filler as well. The filler can be dissolved using hyaluronidase as long as a hyaluronic acid based filler was used.

Thank you for sharing your case and photos.  I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t have a good experience with tear trough fillers.  Do you know which filler was used?  If it is a hyaluronic acid type filler like Juvederm or Restylane, than any remaining product can be dissolved in the office with hyaluronidase.  It is hard to tell from the lighting in your photo exactly what needs to be done.  Do you have a photo from before your procedure?  Because the skin of the eyelid is the thinnest and most delicate in the body, make sure to only see an experienced injector to help you to have the best results.  Consider an appointment with an oculoplastic surgeon or eyelid specialist.  Good luck!

Thank you for your question, from the photo you supplied it is hard to appreciate your exact area of concern, however, 14 months after filler it would be unlikely though that this is anything other than the Tyndall effect. If it is discoloration from the Tyndall effect,assuming a hyaluronic acid filler (Restylane/Juvederm/Belotero) the areas of concern can be addressed by injecting a small amount of an enzyme called hyaluronidase.
