Hi I'm thinking of having a filler in my lips. What should I expect afterwards? swelling bruising? should I schedule this at a time I have nothing going on the next few days? I've lost my neck! I don't want to have anything as invasive as a face lift and PS thinks it would make a big difference just doing some liposuction. Do they ever do that under local anesthetic or is it always done under a general?

Answer: Liposuction and lip filler Hi it would be nice to see a frontal and lateral view to be more helpful, but in general, at age 55, to achieve better definition of the neck with liposuction of your chin ( I assume neck and along jawline as well) is a bit of tall order unless you have really giod skin elasticity or your Surgeon is applying skin tightening device through the liposuction ports at the same time. Also in my practice, I always give my patients option of harvesting the suctioned out fat from neck and placing it back into needed areas of the face, in this case back into your lips... I can reserve the filler for next session.... I love to use fillers to lips, but there’s something totally luscious and organic about plumping up the lips with your own fat....a finesseful Surgeon with good techniques will be able to perform entire surgery in an hour or so, under local anesthesia with minimal to no bruising and minimal post-operative swelling Good Luck!

Answer: Lip filler and liposuction under chin: I'm 55 years old. Hi, I have performed many facial shaping procedures with dermal fillers, silastic facial implants (cheek, chin and/or lips), liposuction and facelifts for over 30 years. Non smiling photos of your face from the front and side would help in the evaluation. I have performed many lip augmentation procedures using dermal fillers or lip implants for over 30 years. From the photos, your upper lip is small compared to your lower. Following my beauty principles, the lips should be full with the upper lip approximately 75 % the size of the lower lip for the lips to appear balanced. The lips can be augmented using a dermal filler or a Permalip implant. Dermal fillers should create minimal swelling in the hands of an experienced Lip Augmentation Surgeon. Dermal fillers and lip implants offer a much more reliable volume for augmentation of the lips than permanent fillers or fat injections which are associated with increased, unwanted, side effects. If your chin is weak, this creates an imbalance making the nose appear larger, the mid face top heavy, the lower face looks short, de-emphasizes the lips and allows early formation of a "double chin". Proper placement of a silastic chin implant adds forward projection to the chin thereby creating harmony and balance to the lower face. Using the same incision, liposuction can be performed to reduce the fat and further shape the neck. Excess skin, from below the chin, can also be removed through the same incision. I have found that placement of a silastic chin implant, through a small curved incision under the chin (also allows excess skin removal) to be very safe, quick, highly effective and far less invasive than a sliding genioplasty (requires extensive tissue dissection, bone cuts and placement of metal screws and plates to secure the cut segments of bone). I perform chin implant surgery in 30 minutes or less, often using a local anesthetic alone. In my opinion, you are a good candidate for chin implant surgery. In contrast, reducing the minimal amount of fat under the chin (by any method alone) would not add the required forward chin projection necessary to correct the weak chin. In contrast, if there is excess fat and skin under the chin and in the neck liposuction can reduce the excess fat but result in excess loose skin in patients over 40 years of age due to decreased elasticity and tone in the skin. This may require removal of excess skin and or some type or neck lift with or without a lower facelift. Hope this helps.
