Could it take more than 14 days for Dysport to get relief on my masseters?

If you are still experiencing extreme jaw pain and interested in receiving masseter injections, I would highly recommend it. We see patients almost on the daily for this type of treatment and see great results for pain or even just for aesthetic purposes. Dysport starts to settle in about two to four days after injections, but for its full effects it may take up to 2 weeks.

Hi @Beautifulonce! It is absolutely possible for it to take up to 14 days for Dysport to kick in. That being said, 15 units of Dysport to each masseter is not enough to relax the masseter muscle. I typically use 20-40 units of Botox to each masseter. I recommend seeking treatments from expert injectors who have the skill and experience to precisely inject fillers into treatment areas and avoid risks and complications.

Hello!Thank you for your question. It is possible to take up to 14 days for Dysport to do its job. However, 15 units of Dysport to each masseter is not enough units to relax the large masseter muscle.
I typically use 20-40 units of Botox to each masseter. I like to use Dysport for softer smaller muscles, such as crows feet, FH and glabella. I think both nueromodulators are fabulous for different areas of the face and I choose Botox for masseters.

Masseter injections are becoming very popular. Not only do they give relief of jaw and possibly TMJ pain from tooth grinding, but they can actually slim the face as well by decreasing the bulk of the masseter muscle and slimming the lateral face. This typically requires 15-30 Botox equivalent units (45-90 units Dysport) injected into each masseter. This will take 3-7 days to fully work, but should not take 14 days. If you are not seeing a difference after 14 days, its possible that either you need additional units injected, or there may be another cause of your jaw or TMJ pain.

There are various factors that contribute to when your Botox starts working. This includes product used, dosage, and even lifestyle factors.
We see Botox working sometimes as early as 3-4 days up to 14 days. Again, depending on the dose that is appropriate for you as well as the product used, you should see/feel results within and sometimes before 14 days.

The dose of neurotoxin used for masseter hypertrophy is variable. This is an 'off-label' use for both Botox and Dysport, but both are used for this application commonly.
Typically Botox is reported for dosing. Most providers use between 15-50 units of botox per side depending on the strength of the muscle and the respose.
What can be confusing is that 1 unit of Dysport does NOT equal 1 unit of Botox. It is about 2.5:1: 2.5units Dysport 1 unit Botox.
Usually, you should notice a difference by 2 weeks with either Botox or Dysport. If you have not noticed a difference, the most likely cause is that the initial dose was too low. It is normal to titrate up the dose especially if it is your first time being treated. I would discuss this with your injector.

Many patients feel relief one week after injections and others can take up to three weeks. 15 units per side is likely not enough to relieve your symptoms but we see great relief with this treatment at the right doses. Make a follow up appointment with your injector to discuss your progress.

The standard dose for masseter reduction is 20 to 30U of botox injected into each masseter muscle. If using Dysport, you may start to see results within 1 to 3 days. It takes about 2 to 3 weeks for Dysport to fully settle in

You should be seeing the final results from your Dysport treatment after 14 days. The number of units injected is likely inadequate for the desired results. One unit of Botox is equivalent to approximately three units of Dysport.
