Eager to get my double-chin fixed moreso through liposuction as I’m concerned Kybella won’t work. I’m considering going out of state by plane (4 hours) for the procedure. With that said, are there certain things to know ahead of starting conversations with docs? What’s an ideal amount of time before I can hop on a flight after? How long will I need to wear a chin strap? Any better treatments?
Answer: Chin Contouring with VASER, ThermiRF, Coolsculpting, Kybella, Thermage, Ultherapy, Exilis, J plasma/Renuvion/Inmode BodyTite I find that VASER liposuction in combination with ThermiRF are best for contouring the chin in those who are candidates, but Kybella can be used as an alternative and gets better results when combined with Thermage/Ultherapy/Exilis or Coolsculpting. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Chin liposuction Chin liposuction is an excellent option for contouring the neck and submental skin and can be performed in selected younger patients in the office under local anesthesia with minimal downtime. Ideally, patient's with excellent skin elasticity and minimal bunching/jowling of skin do best with submental liposuction. Other options include selectively lipolysis using injected medications such as Kybella or Cool Sculpting. Recovery following chin liposuction is relatively quick with minimal pain. Typically there is a few sutures in the chin, a pressure dressing and a neck garment that is worn in the evenings. generally patient is take 3-4 days off work and then resume normal activity after 10 days. You should be fine if you fly after about a week. Be sure to trust your face to a specialist and best of luck to you!

Answer: Choosing your procedure and postcare Go with lipo. Unless you have a minimal amount of fat only under then chin and no jawline contouring is needed then lipo is the way to go. The procedure is quick and the initial recovery isn’t too bad. The final result does take a month or two. The chin strap should be worn for a week but everyone is different and there is no scientific proof on how long you should wear it. Similarly there is no proof on how long you can wait to fly. If you do it sooner you might swell more but there is no major danger. Sutures need to be removed in five days so I’d say if you can wait that long you’d be happiest!

Answer: What are the best procedures and aftercare for double chin removal? More information is needed such as a full set of facial photographs from all angles to determine the locations of the fatty deposits in the neck. Important understand that there are fatty deposits located above AND below the platysma muscle itself. Liposuction can only remove the fatty deposits above the platysma muscle. A surgical neck lift is required to remove the fatty deposits underneath the platysma muscle which also includes a platysma plasty. A platysma-plasty will significantly improve the jawline. It's also very important to determine the skintone of the neck, since patients over 50 years of age may need to face and neck lift procedure. Answer: Treatment options for a double chin most young people who are not overweight and have a double chin do so because of a facial skeletal imbalance with a mandible that lacks projection or a small in relationship to their maxilla. I have no idea if this pertains to you or not. Stella, for those who have a sufficient amount of fat fat removal despite not being the primary diagnosis can give nice results. I agree about your choice of choosing liposuction compared to other fat removal options. It is, always has been and it will remain the gold standard for the removal of undesirable subcutaneous fat. The easiest treatment for a small mandible or one that lacks projection is a chin implant. An alternative procedure is a sliding genioplasty. I would recommend not traveling for your procedure. Unless you plan on traveling back for your postoperative care. There's no lack of talented plastic surgeons in the Chicago area. Patients do not appreciate the importance of postoperative care or the number of people who need revisions or concerned about results. Each provider will have their own protocol for aftercare so you should talk to your provider about the use of chin straps etc. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
