How Long After Breast Augmentation Until I Can Undergo Electrolysis?

Question

I am scheduled for breast augmentation surgery in a week. Recently I have been having electrolysis on my tummy, bikini line, and some stray nipple hairs. I am very happy with the results, but I don't know how long I should wait after surgery before I can start treatment again. My electrologist is very sanitary, but I do get redness and small scabs sometime. Would there be an infection risk for the implants? If so, how long should I wait before starting treatment again? I do not want laser.

Great question and congratulations on your upcoming surgery. I would ask your plastic surgeon for their specific recommendations. In my office, I would recommend that my patients wait four weeks after surgery to have electrolysis.

Thank you for your question. You are correct to be concerned about a possible skin infection after breast augmentation.  I would recommend a minimum of 4weeks but suggest you discuss this directly with your surgeon.

There is no scientific study that I'm aware of on this subject. However, intuitively my recommendation is to wait 4 weeks after surgery before undergoing electrolysis. Ultimately, you need to follow the recommendation of your plastic surgeon.Steven Turkeltaub, MD

You are very perceptive in worrying about restarting the electrolysis too soon after your breast surgery. It is possible that small skin infections can travel to the implant and damage the augmentation results. I would recommend a minimum of four weeks and would be even more comfortable if you could hold off for 6 weeks. But please be sure and follow the instructions of your particular surgeon.
