Hi, i’m interested only in doing an alar base reduction to my nose, as i’m pretty happy with my nose shape. However i’m concern on the visible scars that i will have on my nose after the alar base reduction. Is there any technique of alar base reduction that will not leave any scars? Thank you.
Answer: Would likely need open rhinoplasty Thank you for your question. Rhinoplasty can be performed using a closed technique (all incisions inside the nose) or an open technique (single external incision). The incision used for open rhinoplasty is a single cut underneath the nose on the columella between the nostrils. The scarring left behind from this incision is virtually undetectable when performed by an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon. It is likely you would require an open rhinoplasty to achieve the goals you have stated. Good luck!

Answer: Closed and Atraumatic Technique in Rhinoplasty Hello,Thank you for your question. Since a nose is a 3 dimensional structure while reshaping the nose, all nasal structures and whole face proportions should be taken into consideration. Therefore when alar base reduction is done the tip should be harmonized with the dorsum and the airway deterioration should be avoided. In right hands the external incisions on the groove of the alas doesn't cause scarring. The proper care and usage of certain medication will help heal easily. Comparing to the open rhinoplasty Closed and Atraumatic technique in Rhinoplasty minimizes swelling and bruises; maximizes healing, prevents tissue damage and eliminates a scar on the columella. Answer: Alar base reduction without any visible scars? Once you have the alar base reduced - it will change all of the other relationships in your nose. Without addressing all of the elements of your nose- the aura base by itself will create a very unacceptable appearance.

Answer: Allar (nose) width reduction without scar It is possible to make small reduction in nose base width without creating visible external scar. This can be achieved using sutures placed from the nose columella toward alla and back, to bring alla(s) closer and decrease overall nasal width. However, in same patients small skin excision inside the nose to remove extra skin and avoid bulging may be needed. In person consultation about this procedure as well as other possibilities to improve appearance of you nose, with an experienced board certified plastic surgeon, expert in rhinoplasty, is recommended. Good luck.
