Great question! There is a standard setting for the SculpSure and it is adjustable because not everyone can tolerate the heat at that setting. It is not yet clear if this affects the outcome; the company does not feel that it does. On the other hand, the main reason anyone dials it down is because it is too uncomfortable to tolerate. Dialing it down seems better than stopping the treatment altogether. That being said, we have had patients notice results with both dialing it down and aborting treatment midway. Would they have gotten more if their treatment was not altered? I don't believe enough studies have been done to clearly answer this.
The heat settings do affect the results. However, it is the job of the surgeon to find the balance between a patient's pain tolerance, the heat setting and the desired outcome. Hope this helps.
