Juvederm gave me the worst experience of my life. What can I do? (Photo)

Question

I injected juvederm in my lips 3 weeks ago (I already have aquamid from before, so the doctor usually inject the juvederm over the aquamid) however, a couple of days later I was extremely red, swollen and in so much pain. I paid THREE visits to the ER, until they realizes that I had lip abscess and a really bad infection. Now, after all 5-6 CC of pus is out on the right side, my lips are extremely uneven. I'm afraid of getting juvederm again, but I don't want to look like this!?

Thank you for your questions and photographs.  My first recommendation would be to clear the infection completely, take all of your antibiotics and allow the swelling to all recede before contemplating any additional lip work.  Once there is no sign of infection or swelling, consider a touch up to  restore symmetry or hyaluronidase to dissolve what remaining filler you have in place

It is common to get swelling after fillers into the lips.  It is not normal to have irregularities or severe swelling.  If you are unhappy you should speak to your physician and have the area injected with hyaluronidase, an enzyme that reverses the hyaluronic acid filler.  For the next injections, consider Restylane Silk with cannula injection, this technique will limit the pain, swelling or bruising after the filler placement. juvederm is a hyaluronic acid filler and the wonderful thing is that it is completely "erasable" with an injection of an enzyme which dissolves the hyaluoronic acid, called hyaluronidase. most injectors who do a high volume of juvederm carry this hyaluronidase in their office and with a few small injections, it can be used to correct any areas - and the effects are instantaneous.
