Does every rhinoplasty patient get packing put in their nose after surgery?

Every plastic surgeon and rhinoplasty specialist has his/her own method to manage the nose after surgery. Some use internal splints, sponges, packing, etc. Most use external splints, but some don't We typically don't use packing after rhinoplasty. The short answer to your question is no, not everyone gets packing after surgery but it is very surgeon dependent. In my practice, I do tend to use packing in anyone that gets a nasal procedure. If you are really concerned about this you should talk to your surgeon, but overall I think that nasal packing is well tolerated so you shouldn’t worry. 

Hello, thank you for your inquiry. Every plastic surgeon has their own techniques depending if the rhinoplasty procedure is more extreme or less. Removing the nasal pack should not be painful just feels pressure when removing them. I suggest seeking board certified plastic surgeon for an in person examination and also discuss details. Hello! Every surgeon has their own preference with regards to packing. Personally I use a small amout of dissolvable packing, which does not have to be removed. There are options, so be sure to discuss with your surgeon if it is a concern to you. Good luck!

I would definitely take this question to your board-certified surgeon as every facial plastic surgeon has their own techniques and some do pack regardless of the procedure, whereas others will not pack unless the procedure is more extensive. If done correctly and well, unpacking should not be a painful task. Good luck!

The need for packing will depend on the extent of the procedure.  If extensive septal work is performed, I will usually place some form of packing.  However, in the absence of a septoplasty, I will usually not pack the nasal passages but will use a vaseline gauze in the nasal vestibule (nostril).  Contrary to what you might have heard, nasal packing isn't very painful if applied and removed carefully. 

Every Surgeon has their own techniques. I always pack to achieve the best result. In the experienced and skilled hands- packing removal is not painful.

Every surgeon is different in regards to nasal packing, so be sure to ask your surgeon.  I do not place internal nasal packing in my patients.  Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and not just a computer animation system.  You should be able to view numerous pictures of actual patients with noses similar to yours performed by your surgeon.

Hello and thanks for your question. Not every patient who undergoes rhinoplasty receives nasal packing. The use of nasal packing depends on many different variables, including the extent of your procedure and your surgeon’s methods. If your surgeon chooses to place packing after your rhinoplasty, it should not be painful to remove. You may find it a bit uncomfortable and your nose will still feel sensitive from the surgery, but extreme pain during the removal is not anticipated.

I usually place packing for my patients but removal is quick and painless (at least, haven't seen otherwise!). Usually patients just have a sense of relief as they can breathe again ). Normally the first post-op is nothing to be nervous about!Best of luck!
