Best time to file post rhinoplasty callus? (Photo)

Question

It’s been six month since my primary rhinoplasty. Since then i’ve developed two bumps on my nose, which my surgeon wants to file at 8 months, under local anesthesia and sedation. Is this advisable? Or should I wait the full 12 months?

I personally will wait until 9 -12 months before even DECIDING if a minor rasping procedure is necessary for any patient. A lot of changes can happen in one year, but healing is a crucial factor for minor revisions. There are many different, professional opinions about when it is appropriate to have your nose bridge revised, but taking the next step should always begin with an in-person nasal examination. In regards to this, patients should NOT seek a professional opinion (for their own nose!) about revision techniques online, due to a strict requirement of nasal examination. I strongly recommend finding an experienced Rhinoplasty surgeon, preferably one that works specifically in Face and Neck Plastics. You should seek a nasal consultation that offers both thorough nasal examination and computerized morphing of photos, so you and your surgeon can agree upon a Rhinoplasty result that works best for you.

Thank you for your question.  It may indeed be possible to soften the nasal bone contour with a limited procedure.  In my practice, I try to give is a full year to heal before trying to open the area again.  I have  done procedures similar in scope with local anesthesia and sedation - or general anesthesia.  I have not used only local FWIW.

Usually the waiting time for a revision is 12 months, but under certain circumstances it can be done earlier. The best doctor to make a decision is your surgeon.  A minor dorsal revision as yours can be done under local anesthetics and sedation.

The ideal time to correct any persisting deformities after rhinoplasty is AFTER all swelling and healing are complete.   This is usually after at least ONE year.  Some deformities may even spontaneously resolve WITHOUT additional surgery.

Many thanks for your question. Ideally you’d be best to wait longer for revision surgery - up to around a year. You still have a degree of swelling apparent. A general anaesthetic would be more appropriate also for the revision surgery.Good luck with your treatment.

I'm sorry that you have experienced this common complication of rhinoplasty. Shaving the bone may offer improvement but recurrence is a possibility. IV sedation is possible, but I prefer a general anesthetic. As swelling persists for up to a year, it may be best to wait the full 12 months. 15% of cosmetic procedures require a secondary touchup.
