Will insurance cover a nose tip plasty for breathing problems?

Other treatments have failed. I tried nasal valve repair, septoplasty, and turbinate reduction. I also take antihistamines and Flonase with little success. When I push up on the tip of my nose it feels ten times better and I can breathe. I think I have weak tip cartilage. Us there any possibility of insurance covering this?

Thank you for your question.  It sounds like you have had a few treatments already for your breathing.  Likely your situation is not an easy one.   In general adjustments to the nasal tip are considered cosmetic.  In rare cases there can be functional problems that would potentially qualify for insurance coverage.  In our experience, it is always challenging to get those problems covered.  Make sure you talk with a surgeon that has experience in this type of problem.

Surgical plans to address breathing difficulties are best addressed by consulting an experienced functional rhinoplasty surgeon. Most insurance carriers do cover interventions to address breathing issues. With the exception of a collapsed or constricted external nasal valve, tip plasties procedures usually are designed to change the appearance. These aesthetic procedures are not typically covered by insurance carriers. I suggest you have this discussion with a functional rhinoplasty surgeon. Best of luck.
