Elbowed in boob freaking out, could it be ruptured?

Question

I am a month post op I was at the club drinking and a guy turned around and elbowed me in the boob. I have silicone gel 700 ccs. Could this have caused a rupture? Do alot of women with implants get bumped into elbowed or lightly hit in the boob from being in crowds and public places? Thank you!

Hello and thank you for your question. It would be highly unlikely for the incident that you are describing to cause a rupture of your implant. It usually takes a significant amount of force or penetrating trauma to rupture the gummy bear implants. To be safe, you should contact your plastic surgeon and discuss this issue. The breast implants which have been used for the past 25 years are VERY durable. It takes a significant force to "pop" them. Getting bumped or elbowed in the breast is certainly uncomfortable, but the likelihood of causing damage to the implant is extremely low. You are much more likely to break a rib from moderate trauma than to rupture the implant. If you have pain in the breast that is more significant than would otherwise be expected from minor trauma, please contact your surgeon for evaluation.

Thank you for your question.  Silicone implants are very durable and minor trauma as described is highly unlikely to cause a rupture.  One may sustain a fractured rib before a ruptured implant would likely occur.  If any concerns continue see your surgeon.  Good luck.

Thank you for your inquiry.  It is highly unlikely that there is any damage to the implant.   You may be sore for a couple of days.   If there is any change in shape of your breast, I would discuss it with your plastic surgeon.

it is highly unlikely that a jab with an elbow would cause an implant rupture. Implants are very durable.  If concerned, go for an evaluation in person.
