I am considering a breast augmentation; however, I am worried that they will turn out like bowling balls spaced far apart. I have attached pictures of what I DO NOT want from a breast augmentation as well as what I would like my results to look like. I was under the impression that low profile implants would provide more midline cleavage because they will "spread out" across the whole chest wall giving plenty side boob and midline cleavage.
Answer: Cleavage Dear emtucker93, many women seek improved cleavage. Narrowing the cleavage plane can be done very carefully by a skilled surgeon. Moving the implants too far medially can result in synmastia or unaboob which is very difficult to correct. That being said, the right amount of pocket dissection and implant selection can create excellent cleavage. It would be the best to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Answer: Cleavage with breast implants It will be very difficult to create the amount of cleavage you are looking for based on your current breast shape. You have a very good breast shape but the small amount of distance between your breasts (about 2cm) will be difficult to reduce much further. I would not recommend a low profile implant as it will offer very little projection. You will likely be better suited for a moderate plus implant. If your surgeon attempts to place the implants too close together, you may end up with a very unnatural look. Consult with a few plastic surgeons in person for more detailed information.Best wishes,Dr.Bruno

Answer: Will low profile implants provide more midline cleavage? Thank you for the question. Based on your photographs, I think that you are starting at a good place and should have a very nice outcome with breast augmentation surgery.Careful breast implant pocket dissection and careful selection of breast implant size/profile will be necessary to address your concerns about the space between the breasts. Of course, there are always anatomic limitations as to how closely the breast implants can be placed, without risking breast implant malposition complications. Ultimately, in person consultation with well experienced board-certified plastic surgeons will be necessary. Careful measurements, dimensional planning, and careful communication will be key. Generally speaking, the best online advice I can give to ladies who are considering breast augmentation surgery ( regarding breast implant size/profile selection) is: 1. Concentrate on choosing your plastic surgeon carefully. Concentrate on appropriate training, certification, and the ability of the plastic surgeon to achieve the results you are looking for. Ask to see lots of examples of his/her work. 2. Again, have a full discussion and communication regarding your desired goals with your plastic surgeon. This communication will be critical in determining which operation and/or breast implant size/type/profile will most likely help achieve your goals. In my practice, the use of photographs of “goal” pictures (and breasts that are too big or too small) is very helpful. I have found that the use of words such as “natural” or "C or D cup" etc means different things to different people and therefore prove unhelpful. Also, as you know, cup size varies depending on who makes the bra; therefore, discussing desired cup size may also be inaccurate. The use of computer imaging may be very helpful during this communication phase. 3. Once you feel you have communicated your goals clearly, allow your plastic surgeon to use his/her years of experience/judgment to choose the breast implant size/profile that will best meet your goals. Again, in my practice, this decision is usually made during surgery. The use of temporary intraoperative sizers, viewing the patient's breasts in the upright and supine position, are very helpful during the breast implant selection process. Use of these sizers also allow me to select the breast implant profile (low, moderate, moderate plus, high-profile) that would most likely achieve the patient's goals. I prefer to have a wide selection of implants (all profiles) available in the operating room. I have found that this system is very helpful in improving the chances of achieving the patient's goals as consistently as possible. I hope this helps.

Answer: Breast augmentation Hello and thank you for your question. You are a great candidate for a breast augmentation. I would recommend moderate profile plus instead. The size, profile, and shape of the implant is based on your desired breast size/shape, your chest wall measurements, and soft tissue quality. This decision should be based on a detailed discussion with equal input from both you and your surgeon. This entire surgery can be performed with a small incision technique. Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results. The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person. Best wishes and good luck. Richard G. Reish, M.D. Harvard-trained plastic surgeon

Answer: Cleavage depends on technique and not profile Artistry of surgeon is the factor that determines outcome and not size or profile of implant. Find a good surgeon and start your journey.
