Is 550cc too big for me? I would like to go from a B to a 34DD

It is very difficult without assessing you in person to know if the implant size and profile you mentioned will be a good size for you. Keep in mind that implant size selection not only depends on your personal preference, but it also depends on your unique measurements. There are various types of implants that can help you attain the look you are going for. A thorough consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon will allow you to communicate what your desired result is and will inform you as to what is possible to achieve your goals. Thanks for the question. Based on your photos I think that silicone implants, under the muscle with high projection and volumes between 350-400 cc will give you what you are looking for, natural appearance with good volumes. Kind regards 

Hello and thank you for your question.  First off, my complements on the moniker -- quite creative.  Second, I agree with other plastic surgeons that a high or ultra high profile 500cc breast implant would look unnatural on your frame.  The overall process of ideal
breast implant selection can be quite involved, as breast
augmentation involves a number of different issues.  The first step would
be to clearly define your desired breast outcome goals – this would
include not just the size you would like to achieve, in your case a 34DD, but also your ideal breast shape -- it sounds like you don't want the "augmented/fake" look. 
I would then select the best breast implant for you based on:
(1)   Volume of the implant –
actual implant sizers that you try on during your consultation can help with
this.  I commonly used the Mentor volume sizing
system for this purpose.
(2)   Contents of the implant –
saline vs silicone, saline tends to be a little stiffer, rounder and can cause
rippling of the skin
(3)   Shape of the implant –
round or anatomic;  I would show you how both round and anatomic can
provide a natural shape
(4)   Position of the implant –
if it is over or under the pectoralis muscle; each location would provide a
different shape and projection
(5)   Skin stretch of your breast
– younger patients tend to have more taught skin with more… SHOW MORE
resilience, and respond well to an implant; compared to an older breast with
more stretch marks, which would typically requiring a larger volume to fill the
breast
(6)   Degree of breast ptosis
(sagging) – a significant sag would benefit from a breast lift
(7)   Breast diameter and overall
chest circumference
(8)   Native breast tissue volume
– the amount and distribution of the natural breast tissue.
(9)   Any history of prior
surgery or trauma to the breast
The next step for you is to find the
right aesthetic plastic surgeon, if you haven't already.  In your consultation, be sure your plastic surgeon addressed all your concerns and discussed the surgery details including
the position and size of the incision used (with actual photographs), the type
of breast implants available, the risks and benefits of the procedure, recovery
time, and post-operative course.  Also, be sure to have seen plenty of
before-and-after pictures in women who have a similar breast appearance to
yours, and preferably at different time frames (3 weeks out, 3 months out, etc)
to more accurately predict your own surgical outcome.
And lastly, I think the most important
component of the consultation is to establish a good connection with your
plastic surgeon.  It’s the connection that allows you to clearly define
your desired breast outcome goals, the first step of this whole process. If you
don’t feel you have a good connection with your plastic surgeon after your
consultation, he/she may not be the best surgeon for you.

The size of implant best for you is dictated by your chest wall measurements.  Once we determine that we can choose the profile based on what you want or need to achieve.  If you are seeking a natural look, then the diameter of the implant should be equal to or, more ideally, smaller than the width of your breast. The breast width is a measurement of how wide your breast is at the base, which should be measured at the level of the nipple. Choosing an implant that is smaller in diameter than your breast width will avoid the "side breast" fullness that is often associated with a more artificial appearance.  Other than that, you should choose the implant based on volume, not on the dimensions of the implant. You should choose a board certified plastic surgeon that you trust to help guide you in this decision.  

Silicone will give you a fullness at the top (upper pole fullness).

Silicone implants come pre-filled with a silicone gel and are the softest implant available. They feel more natural, which makes them a good option for women with less natural breast tissue; but they require a larger incision. It may be more difficult to realize if this type of implant has ruptured, so it is important to monitor them with annual follow-up visits. Additionally, because this implant contains a more liquid silicone (less cross-linked), if this implant should rupture, it will leak only into the scar capsule formed around the implant but may cause some discomfort or implant distortion.

Anatomic gummy bear implants might be a good choice to give you volume.

These highly-sought-after, anatomic implants offer a look that more closely resembles the natural silhouette of a breast, and, therefore, are a very attractive option for individuals seeking a natural-looking, aesthetic primary breast augmentation. Additionally, these implants are an especially excellent option for patients undergoing restorative or corrective breast surgery because they provide more stability, shape, and reduced incidence of capsular contracture. Compared to other types of silicone gel implants, the silicone in the cohesive gel implant is more cross-linked; therefore, should the implant shell “rupture,” it maintains its shape and silicone does not leak.

During your breast augmentation consultation, you should feel the different types of implants available, and try on various implant sizers in front of a mirror to help you to get an idea of how you will look following the surgery. You should also bring pictures of the look you would like to achieve, as well as a favorite top to wear when trying on implant sizers.

for a breast augmentation.  550cc is a large implant.  The size, profile, and shape of the
implant is based on your desired breast size/shape, your chest wall
measurements, and soft tissue quality.  This decision should
be based on a detailed discussion with equal input from both you
and your surgeon.  This entire surgery
can be performed with a small incision technique.  Make sure you
specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have
had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results.   The most important aspect is to find a
surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation with a
qualified board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person.

For your goals, 500 cc it sounds a bit extreme.  The best way is along an thoughtful consultation with your surgeon during which to try on a sizing system to help you understand how the particular volume looks feels and sits on your chest.It is important to realize that the ultimate breast size and shape depend upon so very many variables.  A 300 cc implant on a petite woman with a thin frame may look quite large, but that same implant in an overweight woman may be barely noticeable.  Size and shape of the result depend upon the volume of the implant, the shape of the implant, if it is over or under the muscle, your skin and its resilience, stretch marks, the degree of breast sagging, chest circumference, amount and distribution of the natural breast tissue, etc.  For this reason, it is impossible to give reliable advice based simply upon height and weight, or even photos. The only way to approach reliable predictions is with an in-person examination with a board certified plastic surgeon, the use of sizers, 3-D imaging, and most importantly, relying upon the skill, expertise, and experience of your chosen  Board-Certified Plastic surgeon.

Dear DeflatedLikeBradyFB,determining the ideal breast size and matching that goal for the patient is the most difficult part of breast augmentation. It starts and ends with the patient. We have all of our patients find 3 photos of their desired breast size. We ask for naked breast photos because clothing can obscure the true size (push up bras). Next, we consult with patients and go over the photos and take detailed breast measurements during a physical exam. Next, we using a sizing algorithm to determine a range of implants that will work based on the exam and the measurements. Lastly, during the operation, we use silicone sizers in the operating room to see how the size actually looks in the breast. We sit the patient up in the operating room, while asleep of course, and compare the sizer result with their desired look photos. If its too small, we start the process over with a slightly larger implant. We don't stop until we get the perfect match. Of all of my breast augmentation patients, everyone of them have been happy with their size due to this detailed and meticulous process. Hello It is recommended that you consult with a certified plastic surgeon and determine the size, volume and type of implant that suits your figure, it all depends on what your expectations are and agree to what your surgeon tells you Make a final decision, for the photo sent you can opt for silicone implants because they give more firmness and greater volume, these can be of two types:

The teardrop-shaped implants are contoured and considered more anatomical. They are shaped like a natural sinus and create an inclination when placed over the chest muscles. Although these are more natural looking breast implants, you will need an experienced plastic surgeon to ensure they are properly positioned.

Round breast implants are used to give women a "Victoria Secret" appearance. Round implants are the most common breast implants as they provide a fuller and fuller look as well as a better cleavage. Certain types of round implants can also improve breast projection. However, some women feel that round implants look too artificial.

 Based on your photographs, I think that you are starting at a good place and should have a very nice outcome with breast augmentation surgery.
There are several steps taken to select a specific size/profile breast implant for a specific patient. These steps will vary from one practice to another.  I prefer to have a wide selection of implants (all profiles) available in the operating room. I use intraoperative sizers and place the patient in the upright position to evaluate breast size. Use of these sizers also allow me to select the breast implant profile (low, moderate, moderate plus, high-profile) that would most likely achieve the patient's goals. The patient's goal pictures are hanging on the wall, and allow for direct comparison. I have found that this system is very helpful in improving the chances of achieving the patient's goals as consistently as possible. 
Ultimately, careful communication of your goals (in my practice I prefer the use of goal pictures, direct examination/communication in front of a full-length mirror, in bra sizers, and computer imaging) as well as careful measurements (dimensional planning) will be critical.
Generally speaking, the best online advice I can give to ladies who are considering breast augmentation surgery ( regarding breast implant size/profile selection) is:
1. Concentrate on choosing your plastic surgeon carefully. Concentrate on appropriate training, certification, and the ability of the plastic surgeon to achieve the results you are looking for. Ask to see lots of examples of his/her work.
2. Have a full discussion and communication regarding your desired goals with your plastic surgeon. This communication will be critical in determining breast implant size/type/profile will most likely help achieve your goals. 
In my practice, the use of photographs of “goal” pictures (and breasts that are too big or too small) is very helpful. For example, I have found that the use of words such as “natural” or "DD cup” etc means different things to different people and therefore prove unhelpful.
Also, as you know, cup size varies depending on him who makes the bra; therefore, discussing desired cup size may also be inaccurate. Again, the use of computer imaging has been very helpful during the communication process, in our practice.
3. Once you feel you have communicated your goals clearly, allow your plastic surgeon to use his/her years of experience/judgment to choose the breast implant size/profile that will best meet your goals. Again, in my practice, this decision is usually made during surgery, after the use of temporary intraoperative sizers.
In your case, my best advice: more communication. It will definitely worth spending more time (prior to the date of surgery) with your plastic surgeon to discuss further.  As you know, it will be important for many reasons, that you feel comfortable that you and your plastic surgeon are on the "same page" prior to proceeding.

The best size implant for your will depend on what your goals are, the dimensions of your breast and chest wall as well as the characteristics of your breast gland and skin envelope. Without knowing those things and just looking at your pictures, I think that 500 to 550 cc high profile or ultra high profile is a large implant that will give you a very augmented fake look. Be aware that there are increased rates of complications associated with large implants. Your surgeon should be able to show you pictures of patients who are similar starting frame and breast sizes who had 500cc HP implants to give you an idea of what you might look like.
