A prejowl implant is straightforward to place with a low complication rate but I have not found them necessary with a deep plane facelift and if necessary a combination of liposuction to Joel and fat grafting to prejowl area. I would look at pre and post pictures and reputation and online reviews for your surgeon.
Far more important than the technique is the skill and experience of your plastic surgeon. Choose your surgeon rather than the technique and let them explain why one technique may be better than another. See the below link on some suggestions on finding the most qualified Plastic Surgeon for you. Always insist on a board certified plastic surgeon.
It is very difficult question to answer without in person evaluation. In the course of face lift surgery, reduction of jowls by means of direct excision or liposuction, is a part of the overall jawline shaping. Do you really need an implant to correct pre-jowl deformity or this can be achieved with combination of liposuction-excision and pre-jowel fat graftingmay is a decision that can be determined only on the basis of clinical evaluation and surgeon's personal experience. Good luck.
Loss of valume in the pre jowel sulcus can be corrected with filler, fat or implant. The options have pros and cons. The advantage of the surgical implant is its permanence and its predictability. I find these implants are required in a minority of facelift cases. Conventional chin implants are commonly utilized in cases where a small mandible Is identified. In such cases a chin augmentation can dramatically enhance the facelift result.
Hello,Thanks for your question. A facelift with pre-jowl implant is a reasonable option for patients with moderate to severe bone loss around the mouth. A facelift can tighten loose skin and repair split platysma muscles, but it can't really help volume loss around the mouth. Volume loss around the mouth can be improve by the injection of filler or fat, or by the placement of chin and/or prejowl implants. The pros of using prejowl implants are that they can create a powerful change and that implants are permanent. The cons are that implants can move, get infected, create lip numbness or stiffness, and can be visible/palpable with time as you age. I would recommend that you work with a board-certified plastic surgeon or facial plastic surgeon with experience in facial augmentation for the best results.Good luck,Dr. Shah
Hi face57,Pros:Fills in area in front of jowl, correcting volume deficiencySmooths jawlineEssentially permanentCons:Additional procedure with risks (albeit minimal in the hands of a skilled surgeon), such as nerve weakness and/or numbness of chinAdditional bruising and swelling adding to recoveryHope that helps,Dr. Jay
Thank you for this excellent question! Adding a pre-jowl implant can help improve the foundation of the face and enhance the results of a facelift. It is a great option if there is deficiency in the volume in the area just in front of the jowls. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns!
Prejowel implants can be very beneficial in enhancing the overall result of a facelift in select patients. We often perform this in patients whose faces are much fuller and have a very deep prejowel sulcus. The prejowel sulcus is a boney indentation that is in front of the jowel along the jawline. People with fuller faces usually have much more pronounced prejowel sulci and benefit from a prejowel implant along with a facelift. This should not change the recovery and is placed through the same incision under your chin as is performed with most facelifts. As always, there is no one size fits all/cookie cutter method to facelift surgery and facial rejuvenation. It is all about the right procedures that will benefit you in obtaining the best possible and most natural looking results.
Generally during facelift surgery chin augmentation with a chin implant or fat grafting to the midface and pre-Jowl sulcus is an option to improve the projection of the mandible and improve the results of neck rejuvenation by improving the cervico-mental angle. Discussed this with your surgeon during consultation but understand the pre-jowl implant are not performed as frequently as chin implants or fat grafting. Best of luck to you.
A chin augmentation, with an implant or now more commonly with fat or another filler, is often an integral addition to patients seeking facial rejuvenation. When evaluating your profile, you surgeon can best determine visually or by measurements whether or not you'll benefit from chin augmentation. A second opinion might substantiate your needs. Best wishes.
Hello there FLMom18,It definitely looks like you are having persistent swelling of the lower eyelid area. This is pretty common but should be resolving by now. Talk with your surgeon and ask about lymphatic massage and possible steroid injections. Some people do swell longer than usual and I...
Well, looking at the pictures it seems to be still to much tension at your scars. The problem is surely solvable, but not by using any ointment. To asses the skin tension and the tension vectors a personall examination is necessary.Best regardsDr. Tribull, Berlin, Germany
It is obvious from your question that many surgeons do not deal with the ear and earlobe properly. They do not give it the attention it deserves. Fortunately surprisingly simple to avoid and correct these issues if the surgeon knows how.
