Is this an open wound? Steri stip fell off 9 days post op.

Question

I had my implants removed with an en bloc. I had drains, and the entire recovery I was complaining of itchy and pain on my right breast. Figured it was the drains. Drains got removed yesterday and the painful itchy burn has continued. Today at my shower my steri strip came off and I noticed a lot of red bumps along with an area that looks to be open! It’s a little bubble of tissue it looks like. The steri strip had ooze on it as well. What can I do for this? My PS is gone for a week. Thank you!

Small openings tend to close on their own and heal just fine.  Keep the area clean and dry and report concerns to your surgeon.

Hello and thank you for your question and photo.  It appears to be a small, superficial wound that will heal on it's own.   I have my patient's apply bacitracin or neosporin and drygauze or band aid.

It looks like you do have a tiny opening in your incision.  This will likely heal well no matter what you do to it.  I would typically tell patients to clean the area twice a day and put a small amount of bacitracin ointment on the little wound with a bandaid.  It will likely heal up within a week.  Although your surgeon is out of town, he/she most certainly has a covering physician and it is best to check in to see what their recommendation is.
